Every now and then I see a post with a link to a listing of forums, how many posts and what forum they are using.

I am considering moving away from my phpbb forum and wanted to see what some other popular ones are. Sorry Snitz isn't and option, I can't use asp on this plan.

Out of that 835 list that I saw on there, only 2 of them use Snitz. I think I know why. ASP has it limitation(not robust?) compared to PHP or CGI.

But ASP is readily available with IIS and its usually VBScript and it gets the job done, posting and reading forum messages, right? :-)

Not too sure if that is why. The way I found the site was from the Vbulletin site, so I suspect there is some bias.

Do a search for Snitz. I just did and found more than 1.6 million sites.

how robust do you have to get for a discussion forum? there is really nothing in PHP that is used high level for discussion forums. the main reason these forums are generally higher on the list is because it is easier and cheaper to find a Unix/Linux server running Apache.... IMHO.

Huh? I think you're letting some anti-microsoft feeling taint your views there.

ASP is a very robust and mature technology on which most professional sites are built.

In my experience, when I see a site fall over, most often I'll look at the address bar and see ".php"
Now, this is probably not due to php in itself being flawed, just that php seems much more the domain of amateurs, and so they build some duff sites with it.

I purposely went looking for an ASP forum script. Personally, I feel much more comfortable with ASP and ASP developers. Open source software is only as good as the worst of the developers that worked on it.

Alan.
