Hi All,

I have just put a fresh install of the forum up for a new site. It is using MSSQL2000.

When I lo gin as admin, it says I have succesfully logged in and then takes me back to the login page. I know it is not a firewall problem as I also have 2 other sites running the forum and can log in fine. I can also log in here. I am totaly baffled - can anyone shed any light on this please?

Cheers

Steve

All the sites are running on the same server, and all the computers are synchronised to an atomic clock. I have tried to connect both on my internal network and out through the internet.

Have you tried clearing your cookies and then login to the site that is giving you trouble?

Hi Richard.

Just re-deleted the cookies to make sure and it has had no effect. What is baffling me is why are the other boards running OK! To my mind it has to be something to do with this particular install. Having said that I have deleted and reinstalled 3 times so far with exactly the same results.

Cheers

Steve

So they are on the same server, just in different directories, right?

What are the directory names?

Also, do you have all 3 setup the same way in regards to the Cookie Type?

Admin Options --> Main Forum Configuration --> Set Cookie To

do you have them all set to the same setting?

The problem is that on the new board I can't login as admin (or anybody else for that matter!). This means that on the new board I can't get to the admin control panel to set anything!

The trouble site is www.pleasehelpourdogs.co.uk and a working site is www.ggll.co.uk. I always put the forum code in a subdirectory under the main site root called _forum. The databases for the forums are configured in SQL with one site = 1 database, connected to using an ODBC connection, 1 for each site.

I have checked the tables in the new forum and they have been created correctly by setup.asp.

As a matter of interest I have unistalled service pack 2 on windows XP just in case and no change!

Thanks for your help Richard - it is appreciated

I think we may be back to this cookie thing. I just decided to get on with a bit more of the site. On the what's new page I am going to show the last 10 posts. I clicked on the link to the demo post and the board showed me as logged in!!

Thanks for having a go Davio.

Hi guys,

Thank you very much for your help. I have got to the bottom of it. I had missed a cookie option in Windows XP. Under Privacy you click on the advanced option and tell it to accept session cookies.

Cheers
