I am MORE than fully aware of the opinion of the snitz developers on allowing HTML on the forum. However, almost ALL competing forums have a turn on/off HTML and turn on/off forum code option in their posting routines.
It is my opinion that some things, particularily with embedded links are easier to post using HTML. (copy of a blog post, for instance)
What I have done to ATTEMPT to satisfy some members demands to use HTML is this: I have installed Kwhipps Admin/moderator mod for the admins and mods. Secondly I have made use of Marcel's sponsor mod to allow PARTICULAR members that are well known only to post in HTML (Html ON visible to them also)
But the HTML doesn't post without rewrites, depending on content and edit can REALLY screw up the code.
My solution I'm thinking of, in lieu of an forum code on/off is to create a pure htnl checkbox or some such that when clicked would turn OFF forum code rewrites.
ANYONE still around here that worked on the inc_func_common code that can give me any tips?
I know it's a big deal, but I also believe if SNITZ wants to be a world class LEADER, it HAS to address these demands and not try and convince the world HTML is bad ALL the time.
Thanks to anybody that will listen

What do you mean posting routines? Do you mean they have given the user the option to turn on/off html code?
There is an on/off option in the amdin options to allow/disallow html on the forums. Unless you're asking for it in each individual forum.
I also moderate other forums using different leading forum software, and they are as strict on allowing html as Snitz Forums is. Any forum software that is relaxed in allowing HTML coding without some serious checking of the html code, is not very secure in my opinion. We all know what can happen when you allow HTML coding in forum posts.
If you plan to use it, be very cautious. I would go with your idea of restricting it to trusted members. |

Must say I'm a little confused myself, you can already enable HTML posting via the Admin Settings if you wish to do so. I also agree with Davio that the risk vs benefit of doing so though is most likely not worth it. |

No, I am speaking on a per post basis on the HTML or Forum code on/off. example: http://www.hamegg.org/phpBB/reply.php?topic=112133&forum=3 screenshot (I think you have to register to see):
There are others, but this shows the idea
Now I AGREE, that HTML on for ALL members unknown is a bad idea. I am talking about having it switchable for KNOWN people that aren't ready or wanted as mods or admins, that's all.
PLUS making a html post PURE html (maybe leaving the javacode traps) If you make a post in HTML and go back in to edit it, depending on the content, it can be a real mess. If we could simply click disable forum code when needed, it would be REAL cool.
That's all I'm trying to say here. |

You could convert the HTML codes (like <table> and so on) into BB code? |

Well the trick is to have BOTH! 90% of the members (me included) are FINE with forum code. It's the 10% complaining that have me doing this! SO... I am looking for a solid option that allows HTML on call and also allows forum code for the remainder.
I said it's a big deal! Lol |

It's a pretty quick hack to allow it per member, all you have to do is set the strAllowHTML variable to 1 in inc_header.asp for those members you want to be able to use HTML.
It's not the cleanest hack in the world but it does work.
A search on the forums here for strAllowHTML will probably throw up several other ways too. |

I have the picking members part working, it's the rewriting of the HTML on some posts that's the problem. Is there a hack to allow turning forum code off on a member by member basis? |
