OK folks I downloaded and thought I followed the directions perfectly but, I must be Forum challenge.

My wife runs a non-profit that helps people that are disabled and we are trying to get this up and running so those who are wheelchair bound can talk to eachother, but no matter what I do I cannot get this DARN thing to work.

Any of you gurus out there would like to help me that would be greatly appreciated. I searched for a step by step installation but didnt find anything.

Thanks

The reason being is that your host is running the following:

HP-UX Rapidsite/Apa/1.3.31 (Unix) FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_ssl/2.8.17 OpenSSL/0.9.7c 21-Sep-2004 64.143.74.93 SBC EServices Shared Web Hosting Pool

FreeBSD Rapidsite/Apa/1.3.29 (Unix) FrontPage/5.0.2.2510 mod_ssl/2.8.16 OpenSSL/0.9.7c 15-May-2004 64.143.74.93 SBC EServices Shared Web Hosting Pool

They have not got ASP running. You need to have ASP on the server. If you get a hosting company with ASP, let me know and I will give you a hand to set it up.

Cheers,

That would be a good reason for it not working.

Here is a link to my Snitz powered Drag Racing site.

Use Netcraft to determine the server a domain is hosted on, thats the quickest way I know of personally.

It is the quickest. Even the hosting companies take time to get back to you...

I have to use a wheelchair from time to time so, this seems like an intresting thing to help out. So, when you get ya server sorted, i'll give ya some hands on help with MODS and what-not, if ya want

I must admit that also being a forum newbie - i am also finding things difficult from time to time.

I find the directions lacking or difficult to follow. There are lots of instructions that say what to do. But there are no instructions that say - why we need to do things and what it should look like after we have done it. Also would like the common error messages to be documented.

Sometimes you just get a silly error message that perhaps may have come back from some internal program. Unless you know the code well you have no show of figuring it out. It would be better if the message also had a 'this message often occurs if x,y,z happens' type instructions.

I've just finished installing a mod (the PM one), and apart from all the line numbers being out of sync (not too bad), there were a few code errors (path errors in the popup addon) and an included file in some source code that I didnt have (inc_code.asp). There was also reference to the active_topics mod that I dont have - but it took me a few minutes to figure this out. Also testing was hard because there was no image of what things should look like when the mod was installed (took me ages to figure out you had to go into the admin options, open and submit the control panel before the changes became visible on the main screen).

I think maybe a release cycle should be devoted to adding usablity features - rather than new technical features.

Also, maybe the forum admins/developers might like to include some of the more common mods into the core product. Would save a bit of effort.

Those are just my current thoughts - having said all that I can see the code and all the effort that has been put in - its all great stuff.

You'll find that's been brought up a number of times and the answer is that the core features are not going to be changing much in the foreseeable future, Snitz wasn't ever really designed to be an out of the box all singing all dancing forum, think of it more as an educational experience where users are encouraged to tinker with the code be it by writing their own mods or installing others. V4 will have a couple of new features other than the obvious multilanguage support I think though (Timezone settins I think is one), But I wouldn't expect too much else.

Most MOD's are not written by the core Snitz dev team either (though they have written a good few over the years), almost all contributions are made by end users so standardising how these are documented, install instructions etc really isn't practicle. There has been an ongoing documentation project for the core code though which once completed should offer some assistance to "newbies" wanting to get a deeper understanding of the code without digging too deeply into it all.

You need to have Sun One ASP installed to be able to run Snitz. From the info returned by your server, you do not have, so you won't be able to run Snitz.

just upload any .asp file to the server and try and run it from IE. If it shows the code or asks you to download the page, they havent installed One Sun.
