I think the Archived Posts checkbox on search.asp should not be displayed or disabled when there are no archives (by checking T_A_COUNT in the FORUM_TOTALS table).

(Members of one of my forums have stated that it's confusing for them, they search the archives although we don't have any archived posts.)
Anyone with me on this one?

Seems reasonable.

Seeing as the count will have to be retrieved, it could be displayed when the checkbox is displayed.
e.g. (400 archived topics) after the checkbox.

Sounds good. You could just have 1 query selecting the top 1 records so that way it shouldnt mess with the performance any.
