Hi

There appears to be some sort of a problem with Birthday MOD - I think I installed MOD: Birthdays v1.0 (Snitz v3.4).

What's happening is that everyoneis appearing as 12 years old in their profiles. The birthdays MOD is working properly, but people are obviously not entering their birthdate in correctly for some reason...is there any way we can help them enter in the correct date (like include specific simple instructions at the top of the calender pop-up window...when I posted some instructions for someone on the website they were able to set their birthdate to the correct day, month and year.

The instructions I posted were: (I think they are too long to put on the calender screen)

It seems that it's a little confusing as to how you select your birthday, so please find below a step-by-step guide on how to select your correct birthday date:

When you have the calender pop-up box open...Firstly, we're not sure, but the default seems to be something like 1991

1. The first thing you need to do is specify the month you were born in. Do this by choosing you birth month from the first drop down menu at the top of the pop-up box.

2. Next you need to select the year in which you were born - choose the year you were born from the drop-down menu next to the month you just selected at the top of the pop-up window.

3. OK. Now press the 'GO' button at the top of the pop-up window.

4. After a few moments the screen should update with the correct month and year showing at the top within the blue bar just under the selection boxes and 'GO' button you just used. Have a check to see if it's correct.

5. Now all you need to do is click on the day of your birthday...all the little numbers displayed in the white boxes representing the days of the month are links...once you click on the day of your birthday the pop-up box should automatically disappear...your birthday has been set.

6. To check it has been set properly select the birthday calender pop-up box again...the information you just entered should now be presented...not the 9th July 1991 (or whatever!)

7. If you wish to re-set the system and start over, just click the 'CLEAR DOB' button which appears at the bottom of the pop-up window.

How would I get instructions to appear inside the calender pop-up window for birthdays v1.0 - or better still a link in the calender window 'tell me how I set my birthdate' to another pop=up window with the instructions maybe??

Cheers!

I haven't made mine public, yet, but I could see that coming! I had to play with it a few times before I figured that out...most people won't bother with it. They'll just select the day (regardless of the year), and go on.

I plan to just have instructions that say..."pay attention to the year!" They'll figure it out if they care.

What I've done on my forums is modified pop_calendar.asp so the instructions appear above the calendar; it's reduced the occurences of people not hitting the "Go" button after selecting the year but you're always going to have people who outright refuse to read instructions. What I plan on doing for my redesign is have pop_calendar.asp open up with just the select box for the year so visitors can't select the month or day until they've specified the year.

This is not a problem with the MOD, it's a problem with the birth-date-submission code in the base code or better said a problem with people not understanding how to use it.
Personally, I have altered it in one of my forums that you have 3 dropdown boxes (day, month, year) to submit your birthdate.

That was another option I was going to try, OWM; if you could share it, it'd save me a little bit of work and would be much appreciated.

<edit> Do the number of days change when you change the month in your code or is it a constant 31? </edit>

Hi all

As wii suggested, would it be possible for you share your modification and instructions for installation with us OneWayMule? It would be very helpful if it makes things a lot clearer because I'm having to keep e-mailing everyone to ask them to re-enter their birthdate.

It's a great MOD, by the way - I don't want to sound too negative! Sorry! Thanks for all your work!

Yo Mule... I added the MOD to the forum, and it seems to be working... kinda... it's displaying... but it itsn't displaying the range... in other words, it displays no brthdays today.. but it doesn't display any birthdays within 30 days of today.......?

Believe disbelief and contemplate the simple.

Hi OneWayMule

Hi all

Since OneWayMule appears to have disappeared, is there anyone else which could help with the above, or at least a quick fix so that not everyone on my forum is coming out at 12 or 13 years old. What code and where to put the code would be most useful:-) I was trying to find the popupcalender javascript to add a button in that window when it pops up to a javascript link to another popup window which contains my instructions above for selecting your birthdate - can anyone explain how to do this? What else is the popupcalender used for (I don't have the events MOD installed)

Thank you for your help. :-)

Sorry again, ukcw, haven't been able to post the code yet, as I am sick and spend most of the day in bed. I'll see if I can post the code later today.

Hey there OneWayMule!

Sorry you've been unwell! :-( Hope you feel completely better very soon. I thought it had to be something stopping you as you always seem to post regularly normally! :-)

Thanks for all your help!
