Hi all
Is there a way of suspending members (without deleting their posts) who have not posted for say 6 months so they need to effectively re-register or re-enter their details to activate their membership before they can post again?
Also, is it possible to delete members (but without deleting their posts, of course) after a certain time has elapsed without them visiting or alternatively without them posting?
Also, if it is possible does an e-mail get sent to members automatically to tell them that they need to re-register before they can post again because it has been longer than x months since they last posted - and would this work even if other e-mail services are not set up on the forum?
Is there a MOD for this perhaps?
Sorry for all the questions!
Cheers |

members posts are not deleted if you delete a member, all posts are preserved but the username is reset to the word "deleted", if the posts were deleted most of the topics would not make sense anymore.
You can suspend a members account by locking it, this effectively stops them from logging in or posting.
Emails are not sent when a user is locked or deleted, you would need to add some code in order to do that, but it should be fairly simple. |

Hi
Many thanks for the answers! :-)
OK - just two more things about deleting users:
1. If a user is deleted, then this means that the original user comes up as username deleted (by the way, what happens to their Avatar in Avatar MOD?) Does this then mean that a new user can register using the old user's original username?!
2. further to the deleting individual members, is it possible to do a group deletion e.g. all members who have not visited or not visited and posted for 6 months or more? Is there a Mod for this? |

1. No idea about avatars, that is a MOD and not covered by the forum code, you will need to check with the MOD author, yes someone would then be able to register using the original username
2. I think there is a MOD do do that, I'm sure someone that knows will post you a link, or you could try searching in the MOD W/Code forum |

Don't remember any changes being made to pop_delete.asp when last I applied the avatar mod mwaning that the M_AVATAR_URL field will still hold the URI to the member's avatar after deletion. Also, if the avatar was reserved for that particular member, you'll have to edit that avatar through your admin options to make it available to the rest of your members again.
As for your second question, have a search of the Mod w/Code forum for thr Inactive Users mod. Won't do exactly what you want, but it's a good start and shouldn't take much editing to allow you to delete members en mass.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |
