Well, one of my forums is called Rock/Punk/Metal. I'm sure there'd be a nice, friendly debate over which genre is best if you posted the same question over there. |

Wow...I just saw a reply in this same topic at oxle.com (also started by Jez), and there some guys said that Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Blink 182 are punk....okay...when did that happen ? Did I live in a different 1980's than the rest of the world ? I'm getting old... |

as Punk pretty much fizzled out in the early 80's nobody can claim to be Punk after then. |

you can't argue a point like that - you either prefer punk or rock innit ?!
Although when arguing about top 10 chart music, nobody older than 7 can counter the fact that it is total tripe |

Not true at all, I like Punk and Rock, I don't have a particular preference either way |

I have come up with this mathematical equation to explain my opinion:
80's metal > Old school rock > Modern Rock > all
Punk just doesn't do it for me. It's like they don't care how bad they are, they're punk, and they're rockin'. |

as I said earlier in this thread at oxle -> punk rocks. Real genuine punk is fantastic, and guarantees some good old-fashioned pit-action (no...not thát kind of action....although ... ) And if I have to choose between The Sex Pistols and Aerosmith, the math is easy....bye bye mr Taylor, and go go Sid Vicious!! However, if we shift the comparison from The Sex Pistols vs Queen....I have to go with Queen. Restricting these musicians to narrow boxes labelled Punk and Rock is almost an insult. The great bands are genres of their own! By the way, the full term for punk is punk-rock... So, to answer your question, what is better ; If I had to arrange the bands from fantastic to worst : Lamb (not rock, not punk, but freakin' fantastic!), U2, Queen, Metallica, Sepultura, The Sex Pistols, Clawfinger, Skin, Korn, Life of Agony, Therapy!, Nirvana, The Rollin' Stones .... a lot more .... a lot more .... etc .... etc .... The Spice Girls, Aerosmith (finally) hehe |

Agreed on the current crop of 'punk' music but what would you call say, Green Day? |

yep, aerosmith after spice girls....I was considering virtually ALL popular music ever made, so that's why I ended my list of 122.120 bands with these... Btw, I completely forgot to mention good old Janis J and Jimmy H....they ROCKED with capital R, O, C, K, E and D... |
