I just got an invitation because I'm using AdSense. Wierd looking at a new mail service after using yahoo for so long.
Wonder what happens if you start archiving spam? Does google start serving up ads based on that?
An email address is kind of like a bar code for a person. One email address goes to one person, in most cases anyway.
So the google search engine is indexing email addresses as a part of the service. In a sense, doesn't that mean that it's kind of building an email version of their search engine's page rank profile? By indexing the content of the messages and the link provided by the email address, the search engine can build an idea of how strong your relationships are with the people you email, couldn't it?
Wasn't there a Google networking service called Orkut or something like that? I wonder what the relationship between that and Gmail is?

Ive just got an account, it looks pretty cool, and at the minute, its a lot quicker than the likes of MSN/Yahoo, obviously this is affeced by the low usage, but also its a pretty well completley text based interface, which is nice.
as soon as i get invites, ill let you know in the post, perhpas someone wil offer me somthing nice in return :D |

I just got my gmail invite from a nice gentleman over at Trillian's message board. Ah, sweet novelty. Now on to something else. 
[edit]I like the way it acts like a program instead of a bunch of web pages. That is, everytime you click something you don't really have to wait for a new page to load. It seems to be really fast compared to other e-mail services. |

Tried it out immediatley but figured out that the conversation view does not seem to work that properly... Unfortunately there is now way to move messages between conversations yet; Let's see what they're going to make of it...
