Yep folks, ATI (a couple of days ago) just introduced the Radeon X800. The evil forces of nVidia and thier GeForce 6800 are toppling under the stress. Once again, the good guys brand is out on top, and there to stay for another long round of battles.
I'm not "too" big of a gamer, but I do like a fast video card and ATI is what I've always liked. Take a look at the in depth review over at Tom's Hardware.

what do you mean by "good guys brand" ? I've always liked nVidia Video Cards. But, I refuse to use a video card that requires a cooling fan (I like my computer to be quiet), so I have stuck with the GeForce4 MX440 line since they only require heat sinks.
I've see the Radeon X800 listed for $499.95 @ Best Buy. That is a ridiculous price for a video card. You can buy a whole computer for that price. (my most recent computer purchase, a Dell PowerEdge 400SC was only $299, but I added a $100 video card) |

It's just a term me and my buddies use. We call ATI the good guys brand. We always have debated on which card is better, and ever since I've gotten into computing, I've used ATI. This new ATI not only uses less power than the 9800 XT, it is more quiet, the heatsink is smaller, it has better image quality, and is double the speed of the 9800 XT.
$499 is always the release price for most new video cards from ATI and nVidia. They will go down. I believe you can now pick up a 9800 pro which performs VERY well for under $200. |

Dell seems to always have prices like this going on.
Yeah if you want all your things integrated into one unit. Not that it's bad, but I can't stand it. I like quality parts, and I like choosing where they come from. |

I would definitely stay away from the the Integrated video if you plan on playing games.
The PowerEdge 400SC that I got doesn't have the integrated Video (it actually comes with an ATI Rage XL 8MB PCI video card, which I replaced with an AGP 8X GeForce4 MX440 w/128MB DDR RAM ), it does have integrated Audio and GigaBit NIC. The motherboard is made by Intel, and has the Intel 875P (Canterwood) chipset. It came with 128MB of RAM, but I pulled that out and added 1GB (2x512MB) of PC3200 DDRAM. It also came with a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz processor w/ HyperThreading. It's a nice quick machine, meant as a server, but works fine as a desktop. It runs virtually silent too, I can't hear any sounds coming from it (fans or otherwise).
I play Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 1942, etc.. on it with no problems at all.
Here is a site with an FAQ about the PE400SC: http://www.aaltonen.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8
and here is a photo gallery: http://www.aaltonen.us/gallery/400sc |

Personally I'm not a big fan of ATI, 3 cards and troubles with each one of them 9600Pro, 9800Pro, 9800XT ... It's probably less the cards and more the drivers, but I go back to an nvidia 5900U and guess what no problems. with the new cards its swings and roundabouts ATI is faster in some areas nVidia in others .. theres rumor of a 3rd 6800 based nVidia card being released as well. |

I'm also a fan of nVidia and just see the ATI stuff as a waste of money. I'm not all that into games either and am perfectly satisfied with the GeForce cards i put into the last 3 computers i built. |

ATI waste of money? ATI is 90% of the time cheaper than any nVidia card. |

I am happy with my gfx5200. runs perfectly and the games I use it with gives me no stalls no nothing and super image quality with better drivers than ATI, which ATI always seems to ave trouble with... So is the word around. I prefer nvidia over ATI from personal experience with ati problems of course. |

Yeah, sr Erick. A waste of money. I'd spend my money on Nvidia first. |
