Yep, I hold the patent on text characters display and plan to sue everyone, including the US Patent Office, retroactively back to ENIAC <j/k in case anyone thought differently>

Just saw that this morning. What a joke, eh? They should have been charging people from the start, instead of allowing thier technology to be used so long without as mush as a small fuss. It's too late now for them to start collecting dough, especially from these major players. |

Wasn't PNG developed becuase of Unisys announcing they'd start charging royalties for .gif, the main thing thats really held it up was IE poor support for it, IE6 seems to handle PNG pretty well though. I know the PNG specs were orignally worked on by some guys at Livermore not sure what they intended to do patent wise with it. |

the only problem with png is that IE still does not support alpha channel transparency which is what png uses |

Even if they wanted to they are too late. At least for a US patent.
You cannot patent an idea in the US if it has been published for one year. |
