Hello, I hope this is the right forum im a bit confused here with all this tech talk. I startd a website a few weeks ago, and I use the current version of snitz, I have custom avatars, animated smilies, and just less than 400 members. I checked my web host main interface page and to my suprise my bandwidth is 82% used up. This is a brand new board and I expected no problems like this yet. I do not know what bandwidth is, can I get bandwidth back or once its gone.....its gone... i am completly lost here. I do not know how to conserve it, All I know is i have 6000 mb bandwidth limit and im at 5180 mb used. can someone please school me. if looking at my site would help you determine my problem its www.OHfishing.com maybe you can give me some advice on saving bandwidth. Thank you to anyone who replys |

Bandwidth is not something you can get back. It's a monthly amount you get to use. When someone accesses your site, they use bandwidth. Images take up the most bandwidth. I doubt the forum is the main cause, although if you did grow 400 members in a few weeks, it does sound like your site is quite busy. You may want to try and upgrade your hosting package to one that allows more bandwidth usage. Reducing images, or resizing them to be as small as you can is probably the best tip I can give to you for reducing bandwidth consumption. |

Yes, do you know when it resets? If it's end of this month, I'd say your in trouble. |

Sounds like a few more days before it resets. If I were you I'd get in contact with your host and see how much it would cost to upgrade the amount of bandwidth in your hosting package. |

This isn't really allowed for discussion on the forum here. E-Mail me with what your are currently paying and I can probably find you a good host. There are some good ones here at the forum. Having a popular and busy website creates side effects, which are good or bad depending on how you look at it. The last few months my forum and site has been using a combined 100 gigabytes a month or so, that's about 102,400 megabytes a month. It's all worth it in the end. |

So you're saying you don't want to grow? You don't want more people visiting you? If not, just password-protect your site.
But most people do want to grow. If you want to minimize your bandwidth, you'll need to learn a bit about how to reduce it.
Or, you could try to find sponsors for your site. Google's AdSense is one of the best and easiest advertising programs, and they're pretty easy to get into. Check 'em out! |
