The subject of Linux vs. Windows security wise has been discussed here before. I just found an interesting way to look at the issue, posted here: http://www.desktoppipeline.com/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=A2DALS5JRA4CEQSNDBGCKHQ?articleId=18700181

I thought I should share. It may contribute to throw away some common misconceptions. Enjoy .

Thanks for the article, Rui, very interesting read.

That's the main problem IMO.

That test was done almost a year ago iirc, would be interesting to see the same thing repeated now and see if theres any difference seeing as MS have been on the push to improve further their OS security and procedures around patching etc.

There was no reference to the date of the test. The data used was from one year ago, you're right about that, but I would assume that test was rather recent, since the article was posted April 1 in Desktop Pipeline and 31st March in Tech Web news.

I would admit that Microsoft could probably fare even better now, but I guess a test with more current data would be needed, as you correctly point out.

Others have released earlier reports though based on that same set of information, I'll see if I can find some, I do recall reading another report which basically came to the same conclusion quite some time ago.

Actually I think the earlier report I'm thinking of managed to make /. so might be found in the archives there, the link I had bookmarked to it was on deviantpc.com but the links now seems to be dead.
