I'm using Google's adsence which works well with snitz. As soon as a new topic is created they send a crawler over and figure out the best ads to put on the page. Most of the time this works fine. The problem comes in when the person who started the topic didn't post enough info for the crawler to make any matches. The crawler doesn't come back and recheck when others post to it. This leaves irrelevant ads on the page. My question is how can I change the topic ID in order to force a crawler(thinking this is a new topic) to crawl it again? |

Google doesn't get told magically when a new topic is created, the spiders will visit every so often and assess the page, then generate ad's which match the content. |

laser I know that the crawler that builds their index doesn't. However, If you call an adsence ad from a page google hasn't seen before. Then a mediapartners google bot comes through immediately. This changes the ads you see on the page right then and there. The problem is it doesn't come back.
If I can change the topic Id It will come back and change to more relevant ads. example: I have this topic. TOPIC_ID=78 Notice how the ads don't match the subject matter. http://www.vickrey-s.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=78
If I was to change the TOPIC_ID to an unused new number (like it was a new topic) then they will come through and change the ads. |

I'm also currently waiting to hear what google has to say about this. I'll post their response. I know that more and more Snitz users will want to know this. Because, Adsence brings home the bacon. |

Have you just recently joined AdSense? If so, it'll take a while before it figures out what your site is about. And just because you get irrelevant ads once doesn't mean you will always.
Are you getting a lot of PSA's? Or just irrelevant ads? |

ruirib, Thanks for the info. How about the replys?
TestMagic, I've been using it for about a month and it normally works just fine. Except when the person fails to enter enough info. When the person creates a new topic and clicks post new topic. Snitz sends them to the newly created topic. This calls Google for ads. Since this is the first time this new page has called Google for ads. Google immediately sends a bot over to the newly created page and decides what the page is saying to mark it for relevant ads. This means that the ads will be about whatever the first person talks about. This normally works out fine but, When a person enters a little short sentence (i.e. How do I change the speed of an ac motor?). At first you get the PSAs(Public Service Anouncements) As I should. After the bot comes through I get stuck with ads about password management or ads for forums (irrelevant ads). As you know few people click on irrelevant ads. Having a bad topic like this at the top of the forum can be expensive. |

Yes, I understand what you mean; I experience the same thing myself.
First of all, this topic should be moved, as it has nothing to do with the base code of Snitz. Even a MOD will probably not do what you want, as Google has the ability to modify its own algorithms as it sees fit.
From what you've said, I think you really should just give up on your idea. I don't mean to burst your bubble, but Google tinkers with its algorithms all the time, and whatever you do now may not have the same effect in the future.
Google is also making lots of changes to the AdSense program, some of which are designed to bring more money to advertisers. Rest assured that Google is honestly trying to make more money for you (as it in turn makes more for them).
At any rate, as Rui suggested, you could either repost the post, or you could edit it to add relevant key words.
Other than that, not much else you can do to beat AdSense, IMVHO. |
