I recently added the EZ Anonymous User MOD that I found on SnitzBitz, and it works like a charm. I'm using it to function as my Guestbook, as I don't have huge needs right now. However, I want one thing to be different.
In the topic page, where it displays the "Reply to Topic" line (on top and bottom), I want to change this line to "Add new Guestbook entry"... the problem is that I want to ONLY have that as the phrase if the user is in the main guestbook and not one of the other topics in the general guestbook category.
Here's the code that I tried (in topic.asp, appx. line 909), but it didn't seem to work. Can anyone let me know what's wrong with it?
Response.Write " <a href=""post.asp?" & ArchiveLink & "method=Reply&TOPIC_ID=" & Topic_ID & "&FORUM_ID=" & Forum_ID & """>" & getCurrentIcon(strIconReplyTopic,"","align=""absmiddle""") & "</a> <a href=""post.asp?" & ArchiveLink & "method=Reply&TOPIC_ID=" & Topic_ID & "&FORUM_ID=" & Forum_ID & """>" & vbNewLine '#######Bill Parrott's Guestbook MOD####### if AnonyGuest and TOPIC_ID = 2 Response.Write "Add new Guest Book entry","hspace=""0""") & "</a>" & vbNewLine else Response.Write "Reply to Topic","hspace=""0""") & "</a>" & vbNewLine end if '##########################################
All that seemed to happen when I put this in there was that a "_" appeared in front of the "Reply to Topic" (or maybe it was a space... it was part of the link, regardless)
EDIT: Just after I posted, I realized that I'm not even entirely sure that this is the right spot to place this code. However, I would still appreciate comments and help. I'll keep looking and testing. If I figure it out on my own, I'll post here.
Thanks much in advance! |

Hello Bill,
I'm sorry but I have no real answer to your question but...., I have one for you
My guess is that you have to search for "Reply to Topic" in the asp files and replace it with what you want.
I looked at your site an I like the colorschema! Site looks great!
Now my cry for help...
First, I run the latest version with no other mods, what vesion do you run, and what other mods? I'm trying to get the anonymous mod running in my forum (need it bad!) but it is not working and the question I have for you is if you can help me? When I replace the files from the zip with the original files from the Snitz forum I cannot set the Forum Properties to "anonymous mod" as it say's in the readme (wich is bad to read). The option is just not here while in de Admin Options it tells me that the MOD is there. What am I doing wrong or what am I missing? I did step 1 to 3.
But..., do I have to remname the EZA_ files and remove the EZA_ Or copy and past the lines from these files to the original files?
Anyway, thanks in advance!
Regards, Norman (i2Paq) |

i2Paq, thanks for the comments! I've been spending almost all my spare time working on the site and forum for the past several weeks, so it's good to know the work is paying off. To answer your question, I'm using the most current version (3.4.04) with the following MODs installed:
Active Users MOD Anonymous Posting MOD F.A.Q. Administration MOD Forum Rules MOD Hover Colors MOD SmileManager Plus MOD Birthdays MOD E-mail Reminder to Pending Members Header Cell Image MOD w/Gradient Pack Invite a Friend MOD
If you're using totally stock code with no MODs, you should be able to just rename the files and take off the EZA_ from them. If it still doesn't work, let me know. |

It's realy looking great! The colors, like I said, and the whole layout of the site.

Basicly what I want/need The anonymous MOD was my first project I planned, next to the remove "save password" wich is default on (i want it off). I asked my ISP and webdesigner to do this, but they say they don't support writing in ASP.

I'll get to work on zipping all the files I have right now. I'll also see if I can remove that checkbox set to default for you. When I get everything zipped, I'll upload it and post a link for you. What is your site? I'm eternally grateful for the link, as we're a new group. I'll put a link to your site in one of my sections if you want. |

musishun00, I would suggest you place the forum link a little further up - 800x600 resolution users won´t see the link at all.
I think this would match your forum very well:

i wont write the code out for you but if u create an if statement relating to the forum name and make a certain forum name like to a new topic.asp with a changed name or location and changed the link in that topic.asp should work... i think lol |

My problem is that I don't want to create a whole new topic.asp for just this one thread. It would be simplest to just have an if/then statement that determines "if this is the guestbook thread, then the link says 'Add new Guestbook Entry' instead of 'Reply to Topic'"... The if/then code above *should* work (I think), I'm just not entirely sure where I need to put it. |

lol ok i thought u meant whole forum! erm find the lines that create the reply to topic link and thats where the if statement needs to go - youd prob need to refer to the database tables tho... |

This is what you need;
Find the following code in login.asp (approx. line 126):
"<input type=""checkbox"" name=""SavePassWord"" tabindex=""4"" value=""true"" checked> Save Password</font></td>" & vbNewLine & _
Replace it with;
"<input type=""checkbox"" name=""SavePassWord"" tabindex=""4"" value=""true"" > Save Password</font></td>" & vbNewLine & _
( I think it was)

It's my homepage www.i2paq.org, I haven't been working much on it lately but i'm rebuilding it into a site where people in Holland can get in contact with others who like '70 and '80 disco music from Ramshorn ect. We have '80's party's every 2nd friday of the month with about 2000-3000 visitors (depends on the DJ's and act's).

OK. I've got the file uploaded. The link should be http://www.genuineimitation.org/i2paq.exe. I made it a self extracting ZIP file since I didn't know exactly what you had. As a note, I've only been MOD'ing for about two weeks now, so although I think this will work for you, I'm not positive it will. That said, I'm sure you know to backup all of your old files before you extract this. You should be able to just overwrite your whole forum directory (after backup) with these files and use your old database. That's the only thing I didn't include.
On a side note, I acutally changed the Save Password checkbox somewhere else. I found it in the inc_header.asp page and changed the value from CHECKED to UNCHECKED. Worked for me.

Re: Jezmeister
Do you have any ideas as to which file(s) I may need to modify to get this change to show up on just that topic? Also, as I'm fairly new to MODing, I'm not completely sure how to reference the fields in the database. |

Let me know if you need anything clarified, i2paq.
On a side note, to get back to the original topic of this thread, I was able to get that "Reply to Topic" link changed in just that one thread. I even managed to remove the "New Topic" link from there, so it looks just a little more like a guestbook. |

I'm having an error after uploading your files...
