One of the great things about Snitz is the use of NT Authentication as the person's username. It works great here in our business environment, since everyone has to be logged in to an account to access the network. But there was a problem (my fault) at installation time that I would like to correct.

When I installed Snitz, I was logged in to my regular user account. During the installation, the script asked me to enter a username and password, so without thinking much about it I entered "Spiderbot" (the mistake) and a password. A few steps later there was a choice to use NT Authentication or usarname/password, so I chose NT Authentication.

Now, when people go to the forums and post a message, their names show up as follows:

"LastName, FirstName (NT UserID)
New Member"

That's great! They don't have a way to set up some obscure or pornographic identity. But mine always shows up as...

"Spiderbot
Forum Admin"

Instead of entering my name and userID, the forum always uses the name I entered at installation. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have logged in with my "secondary" account to install the board, but I didn't. One of the guys in my department said I would have to edit the (SQL Server) database directly to change that name, but I don't know how to do that. And I don't see anything in the Profile area or Admin Options that would let me change that name.

Now I'm the only one using the board who has a weird name. Does anyone have any ideas how I can correct this?

No, but I can't wait for the answer! You could create a new account, use your forum admin account to turn the new one into an administrator and make sure you have moderator status in all the forums then ditch the old one. I don't think the old one could be deleted but you would have all the controls on the new one that you had on the old...

Well I can't really delete my primary Windows login account. And I can't afford the time to log out of it and log in to my secondary account every time I want to post on the board. I just want Snitz to recognize my primary account as "LastName, FirstName (NT UserID)" instead of "Spiderbot" using NT authentication, the way it does everyone else.

The "secondary" account is what I use as an I.T. person to log into a Windows server. And that's about all I ever use it for. It doesn't have a big profile like the primary account - you don't want to be transferring people's profiles to servers. It also doesn't have email access or much else that I need to use during the work day. I did set up my secondary account as a Snitz administrator. I had a sneaky idea that I could log in with it and use my administrative powers to modify the Spiderbot name or delete the account. But no joy - that account is invulnerable because it's the "Forum Admin."

Who knows, maybe no one else will ever have this problem. That is, unless they put in a strange login name and then decide at some later time to change the board to NT Authentication. Come to think of it, this could happen to almost anyone.

can you go into the database and change the name there? Should be in the forum_members table and sort it bymember id and #1 is tyhe first username created, there you can change it./
