? Seesm you're either in the wrong topic or you got confused by two different mods. Your error indicates that sth is wrong with the attchment mod - here we are in the download mod topic. Which mod you wnat to install and which dbs do you use? |

I tried this great mod, but can't seem to get it to work right. When adding a category, the mod creates a folder like "forum_downloads\myfolder". I can then upload a file in this category. But when trying to download the file, the server can't find it. It's looking for "forum_downloads/myfolder/myfile" Is there a mix up with "/" and "\" ?
Please help me, cause I have announced this download section on my forum. |

Hi again. When the folder is created, it's called "/forum_downloads\myfolder". I can't access the folder, and I can't download from it. The link to the file is "/forum_downloads/myfolder/myfile.doc" I don't know anything about IUSR account, cause it's setup by my host. But I assume that it's ok.

I checked that again (I used the admin_downloads.asp from the zip file) and it definitly works. So let's see whats going wrong with your configuration...
Let's assume you have your forum in www.domain.com/forum/ You would then 1. create a subdirectory in the /forum/ directory called /downloads - you would create that folder with your ftp client 2. access this folder with the browser by browsing to www.domain.com/forum/downloads" target="_blank">http://www.domain.com/forum/downloads (if your host set up the webserver correctly you would get a Listing denied error) 3. assure that the folder has write / change permissions for anonymous access - that's the job of your host 4. got to admin section to configure downloads and enter the created directory in the top part of the admin page - just enter downloads and hit on submit. The script will check if the permissions on the folder are set correctly.
If everything was correct so far you may create a category called Democat - the script would create a folder called democat as a subfolder of /downloads. You might use your ftp client again to check if the folder has been created.
If you upload a file called file.txtin that category, a link to the file will be saved in the database; the link entry would like downloads/democat/file.txt so that the link itself would point to www.domain.com/forum/downloads/democat/file.txt" target="_blank">http://www.domain.com/forum/downloads/democat/file.txt
That's why the downloadfolder has to be in the forum directory.
Again: This should work, I installed the mod again to check that. |

Thanks for your quick reply. I have checked my permisions on the server, and I have write/change permisions. But still, when I browse in my FTP client, the folder is "/forum_downloads\myfolder" And the file is download is pointing to "/forum_downloads/myfolder/myfile.doc" The server is running ChiliASP, and the databse is MySQL. Could this be a problem? Could I do anything to check that my script is creating the folder proberly?

There is your issue there. ChiliASP does not allow for the windows scripting host which this mod uses to upload.quote: Originally posted by yadyam

You need to run it on a windows hosted system from past experience.

Well there are few photo album mods out there which seem to work quite well...
Thanks anyways. But I love more and more the use of additional third party components which provide upload and photo album features to which most of the snitz users cannot revert as they are on any shared hosting. It is not the worth the effort building mods based on the use of such components because there are so many different components out there.
