files how small? At work, on Windows 2000, I open text files that are around 25 - 35 MB in size with notepad on a daily basis. They are log files from our SPAM filters. |

Yup, Notepad all the way, baby. Tried a few others but I just keep coming back to it.
notepads ok until u start writing scripts from scratch - its kind of hard to find where the error is with a text editor that doesnt show lines... |

What's all this talk of Notepad not showing line numbers? If you turn the status bar on under the view menu, line and column numbers are shown in the bottom right corner. You can also use Ctrl+G to jump to specific lines.

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Oh right okay, just whenever I try to open a large file it says something like "This file is too big for Notepad, do you want to open it in Wordpad".
Maybe this is another time when you can "Just Say No"! |

That's what I'm using too. Nice because it has line numbers. |

WordStar! But seriously, UltraEdit and Notepad.

I remember my copy used to do that back when I ran Win95/98. You must be using an old version? Version 5.1 certainly allows files of very large sizes to be opened. |

Or you can simply go CTRL + G to and type in the line number you want to go to in Windows 2000..quote: Originally posted by redbrad0
I do not have problems opening large files on Notepad either when viewing log files or large text files. You can goto line numbers in notepad by clicking
Edit --> Go To
then type the line number to goto

I use InterDev and Visual Studio a lot (v6). Although few others seem to agree, I find the asp debugger such a time saver I'd find it very difficult to do without it.
The editor is "OK", but with InterDev you can add as many other editors as you wish, I often use Araneae, Notepad, or one of the other editors I have configured in InterDev.

Yes the last time I used Notepad extensively would have been Win 98, since then I have used Jedit for almost everything and never looked back. |
