I know this was a dumb move, but what can I say. I did it.

I setup the latest version of Snitz with a MySQL database couple of days ago. I forgot my Admin password. Is there a way I can get it back? I tried going to the setup page, but that only tells me that the forum is set up correctly. I tried using the MyPHP Admin and the passwords is encrypted. Can anyone tell me where I can find the Admin password or am I going to have to start over again?

Thanks.

When I use this it just takes me to the sign in page. I put in my admin name and the new password but it still won't let me in.

That "mod" doesn't take you to the signup page at all iirc, it just a single page that allows you to change a password. Then you go back to your forums main page and you should be able to login with it. If not then try deleting any cookies restarting
your browser and attempt to login again.

It will only work with 3.4 versions as well not earlier forum versions.

I tried this method as well but it doesn't work. I hate to reinstall from scratch. Does anyone have another way of getting the admin password back / changing it / decrypting it

Thanks,

Gord.

What does not work? You get any errors?

I get the Your username and/or password was incorrect message.

I can get access to the database and was thinking of installing from scratch to a new folder setup the admin and password and port over the encrypted password to the password fields in the original database.

What do you think.

Thanks in advance.

Gord.

Did you download Gremlin's file and used it in your forum? I know it works, I've tried it.
Of course, your method is an alternative.

Why not register as a new member, make a note of your member ID and then change this line in config.asp

Const intAdminMemberID = 1

to the number of your ID? ie

Const intAdminMemberID = 4

This will then recognise that member name as the main admin

That won't login him as admin, unless he changes the M_LEVEL field inside the DB to 3.

Hi ruirib,

I am a newbie to snitz forum usage, where can I get this gremlin's file from.

Hi Webbo, I tried to register myself again but have another problem, e-mail to confirm the registration doesn't seem to work...have to fix this as well...don't know were the problem is yet.

I am also using tableeditor (nice util) to make db edits.

Thanks very much for your tips and help...will try again later tonight.

Gord.

Whoops ruirib, I forgot that bit <honest>

Another way is if you have access to the database is to copy the encryption of a known password and replace the admin one with it.
