How can I modify my start-up programs using Windows 2000? Is there any command like "msconfig" to select what items should load when I start my system?

The reason I ask is I get a warning message every time I start my PC. I don't remember installing anything that may have caused this.

The message is:
++++++++++++++++++
Microsoft Internet Explorer Update

This update requires Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 2 to be installed.
++++++++++++++++++++++

I guess that would be easy enough to fix, except I am running I.E. 6.0.

You can check the registry at the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> MICROSOFT -> WINDOWS -> CurrentVersion -> Run

Everything listed under RUN will start when windows starts.

Be carefull playing with the registry!

I had to do some msconfig stuff in Win2k a few weeks ago and found out that it wasn't there. I read somewhere that you can copy the msconfig.exe file from XP and bring it into 2000 and it will work. Worked like a charm.

I've been using Spybot for a while now, never knew that. Thanks.

I still can't find what might be causing this, it's making me nuts. It's a small thing but I should be able to make it go away.

Here is a screenshot from Spybot.
Does anyone recognize something that might cause this problem?

Disable the 7th up from the bottom. That anti-spam Outlook Express may be causing it... OE and IE are tightly knit, maybe that program is for an older OE?

Did you use Windows update before this error started showing? If so, it might be an update which didn't install correctly.

If you google for the exact phrase of your error (enclose in quotes in the google search string) you may find some information in google groups (usenet) or other web pages.

There is a nice utility at SysInternals that shows you want is set to AutoRun.
