So it's gotta be a hardware problem right? The computer will cycle through several boot sequences, sometimes actually booting to Windows, sometimes not. A few days ago, when if finally did boot successfully, I could just leave it on and it would be fine. But now, if it boots successfully, I can work on it for a few minutes and it shuts down again.

I've pretty much eliminated the memory, hard drive, cd/dvd rom drives, zip drive, usb, agp, and other cards (I think at least).

Anyone have suggestions for what I should look into? Maybe a BIOS setting I'm overlooking or something? I'll be sending it back to the manufacturer on Monday, but I'd like to get my data off of it before then.

(As a side note, I got a nifty new Dell laptop with a wide screen. Anyone know what I have to do to make the icons not look distorted in IE?)

I had a computer behaving a bit similar to that and replacing the power supply fixed it.

I'd bet money on the PSU as well. Other possibility is thermals, make sure the CPU Fan etc is working.

well it wasn't the power supply either. I at a loss at the moment. I'm hoping the manufacturer will just let me send it back without the hard drive.

Snap .. just got a new Dell D600 laptop the other day with 11g included, so had to go out and buy an Access Point yesterday too :) ... been bluetooth wireless already but "real" wireless seems to be a bit more reliable than my bluetooth setup.
