I am updating my "old" P866. Just put in a new audio card with 5.1 surround sound (not working yet) and now want to put in a new graphics card.

I installed Windows XP Plus! and it needs at least 16MB and my current set-up only has 4 MB.

I am looking at the following cards. Of these does anyone have a suggestion? I don't want to spend more than $100 and these are in that range. Also, my kids are the only ones who play any games, and so far they don't "need" it.

1. ATI RADEON 9200 128MB DDR AGP Graphics Card
2. PNY GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR AGP Graphics Card
3. eVGA.com e-GeForce FX 5200 128MB DDR AGP Graphics Card

Also, I see that the PCI version is slightly more than the AGP version. I'm not sure if I have an AGP slots. Would that be where the current graphics memory is now? Is it a slightly smaller slot than the PCI? I have at least 5 PCI slots left, so I know I'm all set there.

Thanks!

yes your agp slot is smaller than the pci ones, and is normally nearest to the processor. AGP is much better if you have it.

I would higly recomend the ATI RADEON

Thanks Huw. There is one slot, I'll presume it's an AGP slot, and there is a 4 MB chip in it now. It is the slot closest to the processor. My PC tells me I have 4 MB of video memory so I'll presume that is it and purchase the AGP card.

Thanks for the suggestion.

AGP connectors are generally brown.

I'd check the motherboard docs unless I was sure :)

Your motherboard may be old enough too that it only supports 3.3v AGP cards, you may just need to double check a few things before using a newer card as most are now 1.5v (8x cards are 0.8v iirc)

I installed it last night. No problems at all. Thanks for the suggestions.
I installed Windows XP Plus. The virtual fish tank screen saver is awesome.
