Hi all. Please feel free to pass your comments on "Forum99", a UK based motorcycle forum but with content from users around the world. It's a bit basic at the moment as I was hosting on a slow server so I went as streamlined as possible for speed. I could introduce graphics now I am paying for hosting but want to do it tastefully and still keep the speed.
All comments welcome. I'd be interested to know what MODs you suggest. I'd also like to know if you find the front page too leggy, ie too many categories.

Thanks in advance. |

Well, it looks like the forums could use some color, but I guess that's "in the works". As for MODs, I think it might be best to give two or three options to your users and let them vote. That way you won't install something nobody wants, and you'll give your members a say in what happens to the forums, which is great for community-spirit |

Roland, you nailed it perfectly by mentioning the involvement of the community. Most of the design and mods that I have incorporated at my forum have been the result of input, major input, from the community.
Imperial Data, I agree that I think you may have too many categories. Make it easier for your visitors to bounce around. I would personally group the motorcycles instead of listing them individually. Perhpas by the country they were manufactured in? (U.S., Italian, Japan, etc). Whatever you decide, I would certainly try to slim down the selections.

Thanks for the comments. I would like to slim down the front page by moving the categories around, maybe as you suggested Dayve by country of origin. What is the easiest (and quickest) way of doing this?
As for colour, I have to admit to being very colour blind so the black was a safe bet. I do feel it is easier on the eyes to have a dark background though when reading many posts. |

The easiest way to change your categories and the forums in them is by editing the categories' names and then doing the same for the forums. Move the forums into the correct categories, and last but not least, move topics from forums that you no longer need to other forums. Be happy that you're going to do it now and not in 6 months... the number of topics to move is relatively low now |

All updated now, feel free to (re)visit and pass comment.
Members are not too vociferous when it comes to changes they would like to see. I guess they just want something easy to read and post on, not everyone is a web designer after all. Content is king as they say and I'll try to keep it simple where possible.
Cheers all. |

Since the update I've got positive feedback from the members but I really would like to get to subcategories from the main categories, ie "Jap Stuff" category would lead to "Yamaha", "Kawasaki" etc subcategories. Any ideas if this is possible? It would really help to streamline the front page. |

Just had the 1000th post on my forum on New Year's Eve. Not bad for a forum which has only been up for a few months.
I'd like to congratulate all the Snitz people on their software, their support and for being one of the best communities on the Web. Have a great 2004 everyone. |
