There is a checkbox in the PM Options area that says:

Forum can send you an e-mail notification whenever you receive a private message.
Please select your preference.
Receive e-mail notification of private messages.

If you select this option to receive the notification, it send the e-mail to the person you send the PM to when you send one. NOT sending YOURSELF an e-mail when someone ELSE sends you a PM.

Is this option simply phrased incorrectly and this is how it is supposed to work or is there something wrong with it?

I think it is worded correctly. Basically you want to be notified by email when you get a PM. I get an email when a PM is received by my inbox.

Mine doesn't work like that. I DON'T have the check, but when someone who DOES have it sends me a PM, I get an e-mail...
