I'm running two video cards (nVIDIA) and I'd like to have the two nView desktops on different displays, can it be done?

What is an nView desktop?
Speaking from experience, I have used a machine with 2 video cards and 2 monitors and you can have a "larger" desktop. I could drag and drop between the 2 monitors and other things. It was nice because I had my development software open on one monitor and my web browser open on the other monitor so I could easily monitor my changs without have to switch between windows as I normally do on a 1 monitor system. |

Hmm.
OK, let me explain in an understandable way.
I have two video cards, a GF4 MX 440 AGP and a GF2 MX400 PCI. They are both connected to monitors. I get basicaly a "long" desktop. What I want is "two" desktops that act independant of eachother. E.G. Have two taskbars and start menus. as of right now, I have the second monitor without a taskbar/start button.
forget nView, I think there are programs for this....nView won't work because it's two seperate cards. |

| You'll never have two start buttons/task bars because Windows is designed only to have one. However it should be possible (with the latest drivers at least) to set the two monitors to have independent resolutions and colour depths. 'Dual view' is the mode I use to do this (albeit with one FX5900 AGP card that has 2x outputs.) |

| I have one monitor 800 x 600 and the other 1024 x 768, with the same colour settings. However, I havnt found a way of getting 2 start bars. |

| Well I have worked for company's before that just have monitors with a keyboard a mouse plugged into the monitor with no cpu. The monitor then sends and recieves the information from the main computer over the network. The last place, there was 5 monitors all running different start buttons and everything off one computer. We called them either "dummy terminals" or "dummy monitors". I am not sure how it all worked but might be what you are looking to do. |

Hey guys.
Thanks for the responses.
I found a way via "UltraMon" it adds a taskbar (no start button, but that's OK) to the second monitor.
Apperantly I have another problem :( The PCI Video card (GF2 MX400 64mb) makes my computer (AMD Athlon XP 2600+, Giga-Byte GA-7VAX, 1GB pc3200 DDR RAM) reboot when working in the second monitor. I've installed the nVidia drivers for it, but that doesn't help. Any suggestions would be great. =)
This would all be much easier if the #$%&^ DVI port worked on my GF4 MX 440 AGP. :( I have the most screwed up computer problems.

sounds like a typical remote admin tool or even Terminal Services, or even Citrix Metaframe. |

It can be a pain to get drivers working for both video cards, especially if one was installed some time after the first.
Best thing to do is grab the latest version of the drivers from the manuf. web site, completely uninstall the current video drivers and reboot the system. When Windows asks you to supply drivers for the cards, just click Cancel.
Then re-install the new drivers. For some reason the installation procedure is better at recognising and configuring both cards at once than trying to do one at a time.

| I run 3 sometimes 4 monitors and Ultramon really is your friend here, nView is good but ultramon gives you a lot more flexibility. |
