I'm going to make a custom search page for rakkoon.com since it'll be easier to do that than to rewrite the forums' search page. But, of course I'll be using the Snitz database since that's what the site uses. My question is therefore if I'm supposed to add the link back to Snitz on my own search page if it only connects to the forums' database but doesn't use any of the forums' codes.

Normally I would think "if in doubt, do it" and I'd add the link instantly, but since I know more people have had questions about when they should add the link back to Snitz on their own pages, I thought it'd be a good idea to bring this up again.

I wouldn't. You don't have a snitz link on your table editor pages, do you?

I'd agree. No snitz code = no snitz link.

But if you're using the database for member validation you'll need to link right ? I'm thinking of my hand-cut tipping comp on V8Central, it validates logins and works a bit like the Universal login. I have the Snitz link there at the moment as well.

Does GPL cover database Schemas ? I thought it only covered "code", in which case I'd say a link back isn't required personally too.

Won't be needing any validation codes. All the search will do is cover the topics and/or replies posted in one forum, and since that's "open for all" I don't need to use any forum codes

Thanks for your replies everyone
I'll try to finish the search page today. Maybe by then Richard or Huw will have shared their thoughts on this too, otherwise I'll just leave the link off.

Roland,

Your free and clear here ;) the rules are in reguards to code. So, if you cut and paste a bunch of code, then hack it to make it work how you want, then you would need the footer. If you write it from scratch, then it is yours and you don't have to worry about it.

Data is yours as well. So no footer needed on database access.
