Has anyone seen a program similar to something like:
http://www.moonsoftware.com/bmagic.asp

Its basically a utility to backup files by simply copying them to a secondary location rather than zipping them or compressing them in some other form.
I like the features of this one, but want to see what else is out there.

What about the backup software that comes with Windows? In 2000 and XP you can schedule backups and only backup new and changed files if you want.

Yeah but it compresses the files into a .bkf file. I want to simply "copy" the files to another location.

You could easily do this with a script instead of buying this program. Of course it wouldn't be as fancy but it would get the job done.

Yeah, write some sort of batch file that does it. That wouldn't be that hard, I don't think. I was just configuring backups today on our Macs at work using Dantz Retrospect. There is something in there where you can copy one volume to another like you're asking. I'm sure the Windows version would have it but I don't know how much it would cost. If you could find a free app that does it, you'd be all set but I don't know of one off hand.

That's the software that came with my external Maxtor harddrive. I don't use the software though...
On their site they say the "professional" (cheapest) version of Retrospect 6.5 costs $129, so it's not exactly cheap.

I use AUtoSave from Vcom. Backs things up without you even noticing, and puts them whereever you like: http://www.v-com.com/product/as_ind.html

try www.xxcopy.com - freeware for individual use - use the following command line options and it'll replicate one directory to another, folders, deleted files, everything... very robust, nice logging and reporting functions available...

xxcopy pathfrom pathto /wv0/bn/e/h/k/q/q2/r/y/zy/ze/yy/ff/tca/tcc

On W2K/XP I use the windows backup program. It has the advantage of saving/restoring the registry, other system state information, and acl's on NTFS filesystems. I wasn't very happy with earlier versions of windows backup programs but the 2K/XP version is quite usable.

I just bought a 200 GB Maxtor External Firewire/USB 2.0 drive for work and it came with Dantz Retrospect Express 6.0 for Windows. I installed it and you can duplicate folders like you're asking about (even over a network). I checked their web site and some retailers and it looks like they don't even make it available for sale. If you can get your hands on a copy of this, you'd be all set.
