To all forum owners regarding the general implementation of a forum.
Which mods have you found that really do add value to your forum. There are a lot of mods available, and i've seen links to forums posted here that seem to contain as many bells & whistles as possible. I think it is total overkill. I'm a fan of "less is more" way of thinking - at the end of the day, its the posts and the people on the forum who make it a success. Also of course it greatly helps Joe Public if the forum is as easy to use and clutter-free as possible.
do you think that email validation really is necessary? - I know you might get a few idiots posting stuff anonymously, but surely not that many. or...?
My own forum that i am still developing has changed little from the base snitz code. i've made the icons & colour scheme complement my site, added some new questions to the user registration form. I have also tried to make the forum fit as seemlessly within my site as possible by linking the snitz login/reg facility with other areas of my site where a login is also reqd. For me this is all i need. The photo albums, polls and all the other stuff is unnecessary
email validation is necesary if you have any form of email enabled, otherwise you will be sending stuff to non existant email addresses, it is also a way of controlling bad behaving members (they do exist) and having to validate an email will stop most of them from registerring over and over again.
