Will you be putting in an option that would allow administrators to choose between PNG and GIF image files?
PNG image files are more convenient. Being that they can be smaller in size and faster loading for dial up users. |

This question is going to be coming up more and more often as PNG's are quickly becoming one of THE internet standards ;) |

I was going to do this, but we have some animated GIFs. (PNGs don't support animation. There are MNGs, but they don't work with all browsers 'out of the box') If we got rid of the animated GIFs (made different icons for the current animated ones), then we could convert all of the GIFs to PNGs. |

This is only true of larger gif images, converting the 1K forum icons to png will actually double there size |

Unfortunte that PNG's aren't fully supported by IE, yet. When I say "unfortunate", I mean "bloody stupid"!

Search is your friend “I was having a mildly paranoid day, mostly due to the fact that the mad priest lady from over the river had taken to nailing weasels to my front door again.” |

Could be my copy then; alpha transparancies don't always show up correctly, they usually show as 100% black ...

Yes, Internet Explorer has problems with Alpha Transparency in PNGs. But, I wasn't planning on using Alpha Transparency on the icons, just converting them from GIF to PNG... |

Alpha Transparencies are easily fixed by adding a small Style Sheet bit to your CSS to define it properly... and a file to have it reference. |
