I'm trying to figure out if there's a setting in IIS 5.0 that allows you to have a website appear as http://domain.com as well as http://www.domain.com. The site I'm working on only appears when you enter the "www" prefix. When you leave it out, you get an "under construction" page which says that the domain doesn't have a default page. When you leave the "www" prefix in, everything works properly.
Any quick fix for this? Thanks! Paul Noe |

First, are you sure you don't have domain.com registered listing a different server address? If you have domain.com and www.domain.com registered at the same IP then see the following.
you might have a specific host header defined. Right-click the website(s) in question in the IIS MMC and choose properties. On the first tab, it shows the IP address (should say all unassigned if there is only on IP for the machine). There is a button that either says Edit or Advance (can't remember which)...click that and you'll see a host header defined for that site. If you remove the host header, then that site will come up for both domain names. |

My website does say "all unassigned". I checked the advanced tab next to IP address and there is one host header on port 80. It also says "all unassigned." When I removed it, it disabled the OK button and wouldn't allow me to save it without a host header. I don't know if it matters, but the host header didn't have a Host Header Name. The site looks to be registered ok. I don't know why it won't allow me to save without a host header when it's recognizing the "all unassigned" and port 80 on the main Properties/Web Site tab. Any other possibilities? Thanks for the info, though. |

you want the all unassigned and the port in there and the name left blank. if the name is left blank, then it should work, as long as both names have the correct dns entries. |

I was just educated that it's a change that had to be made on our DNS server. I had our network guru look into it and he's resolved the issue. Thank you for your help though. Sorry for the trouble.... |
