I just built my new computer...Athlon XP 2600+ with a Thermattake Valcano 11+ Xaser.

My Temp is around 48-60C.

Fan is on full, it's a 300W case. It's the only fan in there (Except the Power Supply Exhaust Fan (This is a Temp. Case until I get mine in a week (500W).

Any suggestions??

by 48-60 I meant 48 when started, and 60 under load....

If it reads 48 when you switch on, either the measurement is dodgy or the room temperature is up in the 40's

Room temp is like 65C...

Should I update my BIOS? This is a Gigabyte GA-7VAX motherboard...

Sound like very good temps then. Between 10 and 20degC (50 - 65degF) are excellent running temps for that CPU.

I agree with D3Mon, unless you going to extreme's in Cooling then around 50-60 for that CPU is quite Normal, I think the maximum rated thermal die temp for most of the Athlons is about 90 degrees C and your still a good way off that.

Don't confuse Athlon temps with Intel Temps Intel P4 Temps run a lot lower than AMD's.

Most motherboards now have a sensor underneath the chip, you can view it via the BIOS when you boot up, or alternatively theres lots of software out there than can report it in real time for you.

One of the most popular is called Motherboard Monitor, you can find it here http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

Be aware though that some on-board sensors can be off by as much as 10 degress (either way) so measurements using those should always be subjective.
