I currently am using notepad. It works, but I would like to find an editor which would have a line counter in the left hand side. Anyone know of any such editor?

I use Dreamweaver MX in the code view but you're probably looking for a free application so that won't help you.

Dreamweaver MX is pretty good. Just downloaded the trial version. It gives you the option to make the workspace look and feel like Homesite but with all the functions of dreamweaver. I won't replace my Homesite just yet. Still need to play with it.

Here's one that I found that is free and you can get ASP plugins for it also. It can be used to edit MANY different types of code. Very complete, especially for free.

Dreamweaver is good, but it is more geared for Project Oriented Development, whereas HomeSite is just a really good editor and well worth the $$.

If I didn't have Homesite, I'd use SourceEdit (http://www.brixoft.com/prodinfo.asp?id=1), which is a free text editor that can be used for quite some different "languages"

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I have a related question. I use DW MX and I'm usually working on projects or whole sites at a time. I usually switch between the code view and the design view and most of the time have both showing. Would it be beneficial to use a different editor like SourceEdit or the others mentioned here to edit my ASP code or should I stick exclusively with Dreamweaver?

What would the reason be for using another editer along with DW? Dreamweaver MX does what other editors do, plus some.

If you were talking about an earlier version of DW, which was basically a WYSIWYG editor, then I would recommended to use another asp editor to edit your pages when it comes down to the code.

But with DW MX you can work with the Design view or the Code view comfortably. Which is what I like.

You're quite right Dayve. There was quite a few times when DW kept asking me to create a site. When I tell it No 5 times why doesn't it take a hint that I don't wanto create a site? But apart from that, it's pretty good.

Araneae is great. Since I already have Delphi for other development, sometime I use the Delphi editor because it has a keystroke record and reply capability that can be very handy for doing complex mass changes.
