I don't know what it is, but I've got a file that I'd like to delete, but I keep getting a message saying that windows can't delete it becuase it's being used.

I've tried restarting, but it's still giving me the same message.

Can anyone give me some advice on this? It's bugging the hell out of me.

Is it a DLL or an EXE file? Search in the registry for the filename and see if it's referenced anywhere.

I've had problems like that before, especially when working with files that were created in another language. I had a few Japanese Word documents that Windows simply would not let me delete because the first character of the file name wasn't recognized in Windows. I had to go into DOS to delete them.

Not sure if that's it for you, though.

i've had this problem sometimes when windows loses track of who is using a file. Logging off & back on ususally straightens it out (w2k, xp). Or boot into safe mode or command prompt only & delete from there.

No, it's not an AVI file, it's and exe.

It was in a folder within the windows folder. I moved the folder to another folder outside of the windows folder and restarted. After that I could delete the exe.

It scared the hell out of me. I was working on my PC when the exe brought up a ZoneAlarm dialog saying that the exe wanted to act as a server and access to the internet. Don't know what it was, but I don't like programs asking for net access, expecially when I haven't installed anything new.

Anybody know if a good spyware removal program?

No, it was few letters followed by 32.exe It's gone now and good riddance.

Stuff like that makes me paranoid. I updated my NAV virus listings, updated to the latest version of ZoneAlarm and ran a complete scan of my PC after that.

It's my most popular MOD I think. Just helps to make the forums look like a part of the whole site.
