Is it possible to receive a daily digest of all messages posted to my forum? If so, how can I set this up?

That's a good idea. I would also suggest making a weekly version for those who don't want daily epistles.
Show topic headline and post with a limited number of characters for each post. |

No comments? Too difficult? Not needed? |

Sure it's possible, but not without making a MOD for it.
If you want, either I or one of the other moderators can move this topic to the MOD W/O Code forum so this topic can serve as a MOD Request. |

I'd like that. Thank you!
How would I find out if/when an MOD is made for it? |

by checking back regularly, sometimes updating the topic to keep it from going too far down on the list to prevent it from being forgotten.... |

In support of digest functionality, I have mostly corporate members who are leery of getting too many emails from hyper-active discussions. This leads them not to subscribe, which defeats the utility of that functionality.
Thanks for the opportunity to contribute .02

I think they are looking for something like YahooGroups has where a daily digest as an email is sent to their email account. Like converting the subscriptions MODE at their forums to send a digest of topics and replies (one email) rather than individual topics and replies (many emails).

That is correct, though I'd add that the Yahoo Groups implementation (the look of the email) of this isn't the model I would follow -- it is very hard to read.
But the point is, the subscriber chooses the option to get an email summary at some pre-determined frequency of the topics/forums/categories/ board to which they subcribe. Included in the email message is a link to take the subscriber to the actual board and posting, if they choose.

I've created a mailing list Mod. Members can not subscribe to topics anymore only to a forum, cat, board. The only way this works if you have your own mail server. A member can subscribe to a list normal or digested. It's only running for 2 weeks but it's more busy now (intranet). |

By "your own mail server" do you mean something like if the members of your forum have all the same email addy extension like etymon@ajhvdb.com, ajhvdb@ajhvdb.com, etc.? |

In addition, surely this would require some kind of executable to work best.
The .exe would connect to the db, and work out which content goes to which people (They don't wanna know about posts they've already read, or about articles (thinking integration with portal mod here) they've seen.
The exe would just fire once per day and do all the mailings.
Sure... this is possible to do via the admin area.... but an admin would have to kick off the daily / weekly digest scripts, and lets be honest, it could tages AGES (Server.ScriptTimeout = 100000 - lol) on boards with a several hundred members.
Let's get real here.... not many people would be able to effectively run this mod... even if it did exist. |
