Anybody tried this revolutionary new CPC banner advertising yet? Uses the power of Google to spider your pages (yes, even forum pages) and display ads (from their PPC network, AdWords) related to the content of those pages.
Works incredibly well on the forums and is proving to be quite lucrative. Finally a way to make some real money on your forums!
Here's the sign-up page for those that are interested. |

Aah, my apologies. I usually read everything in CD... can't believe I missed that.
Anyway, if you can get accepted... it's well worth taking the time to work this into your forums. Since you're not allowed to have the ads on registration pages, SERPs or thankyou pages, i've adapted the ad into the main forum tables in default.asp, forum.asp, topic.asp and active.asp. Easy. No need for any fancy stuff, just a small include.
Gremlin... FYI, i've noticed lots (and I mean lots) of ads for Kiwihosting.net on my music forums. Small world! |

I guess that helps to explain why I seem to have had almost 200,000 impressions last month :) |

I got turned down. The rejection email was so generic that I have no idea why they turned me down.
My site is about military aircraft. OK, so not everyone is in the market for an F-15. But some of my visitors are big RC aircraft modellers, air show fans, etc.
C'est la vie. I'll try again later when I've built up my user traffic.

Are you targetting forums? It seems to appear on pages that the robot doesn't have access to (hidden forums).
Great thing about AdSense is it's giving me the money to budget for AdWords! Hopefully one will feed the other will feed the other... |

Exactly what we're doing. AdWords was already paying for itself in increased sales, and for us, AdSense is outrunning AdWords so we're quite pleased. |

My hosting fees are WELL taken care of. I'm very happy with Google's Ad Sense. So easy too. But, I don't have it on a forum page. I'll consider that. |

Gremlin,
Are you happy with AdSense? I'm hearing on some boards that Google won't be able to continue paying out the fees for the click-throughs but I think as long as the advertisers are happy then they'll keep paying.
Targetting the ads for Google is why it's so successful. A publisher doesn't end up with irrelevant junk, nor are there any "Hit the monkey" or gambling and pornography ads. |

No i'm not actually, I'm assuming its using the fact we have "Snitz" hosting plans and the fact your running a "Snitz" forum and putting 2 and 2 together.
So far I'm happy with Adsense Astralis, not going to make be Rich or anything but I'm happy with anything that offsets my adwords costs. I only have adsense running on one smaller forum right now as a bit of a trial, so the CTR's aren't exactly sky high anyway. |

I haven't read much about the program, someone else is placing the ads through the adserver. While I'm generally not a fan of ads, I have to say I'm impressed with the technology/concept. It's pretty cool how Google does that.
I've been noticing a lot of charities coming up. The Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Peace Corps, etc. Is that a default if nothing matches? |

Yes, I think those ads are placed until Google get a chance to send in the robots to check your site's content out. Shouldn't take too long. |

Yeah I get them too on pages which are farily generic I guess they're just defaults of some sort like D3mon surmised, even after my sites spidered (which it seems to do several times a day now) those adds still appear on some pages. |

Gremlin,
I thought that advertisers could re-tool the matching criteria. You can tell it not to include "Snitz". In case you haven't already explored the possibilty, that would solve the problem.
How is your conversion rate? You are advertising on Adsense and Adwords at the same time, correct? |
