Hello, I will be the project manager of 12 new sites that we are building for other groups and I need an online project mamager
I will be the only administer, but I will be dealing with 12 projects (new websites for other ministries)each of the projects will have a contact person who needs to check progress.
I have priced some packages but they are way out of our range. I was wondering has anyone modified a Snitz Forum to do this type of task, and, or, a online help desk modified forum?
As a pump primer I'm thinking of giving each of the 12 projects a "locked by password" catagory, where I can then make a number of tasks as topics. It would be great to have a calander for each project, but perhaps I'm looking for too much. Can anyone help outthere......please |

grace2much What have you looked at for the online project managers? I too am looking for one. At this point the leading contender for us is www.intranets.com , we are nonprofit and the pricing is attractive. |

Have you tried ProjectApp? Full version is only $79. There is a free version, but I don't know how limited it is.... |

Thanks, Dave and Cliff! They both look really good contenders. The www.intranets.com looks very professional and though their rates for non profits are really good I'm not sure if I like the monthly fee route. ProjectApp on the other hand looks like it may be the job for me. I have asked a few questions to them especially to do with handling the 12 projects as password protected and so then private etc. The only other contender I saw (because of the slick ones being so expensive) was www.metatree.net the cost was fair but compared to these two it looks a little dated and light on the features, though it is a simple way to go. I will do some testing on both tonight and then make a choice, that of course if no one else on the forum has any other ideas.
Thanks guys for the help.................it was really helpful:-)

Dave, it looks nice, but it's missing a few options I need. I have to have it send notification when projects are due, or overdue. These guys also offer one http://www.aceproject.com/ that I like, but I would need to have a custom page built for the e-mail notification. I have e-mailed them several times and always got a fast and friendly response. |

I just went looking around and I found Convea. The price is right if you can answer "No" to the following bullet points.quote: The software from Convea Ltd. is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) and is provided "as is" and is without any warranty. You need to purchase commercial non-GPL Convea licenses if:
- you distribute Convea Software with your non open source software
- you intend to directly profit from the provision of Convea software or services
- you want warranty from Convea Ltd for the Convea software
- you want to support Convea development

Thanks to all you guys! I have checked out all the links and its now a shootout between ProjectApp? and Convea. I can have Convea for free, since we are a non-profit ministry and it looks really good, though I think the ProjectApp is probably more straight forward and better for those clients who are not at ease with things online. So still not 100% which one but learning slightly to the ProjectApp.
Doug, I have looked at the Liberum product and it looks good. But in the ProjectApp suite of aplications they have a help package that looks, I think, even better, but you do need to pay for it..............I think! George |

Convea looks pretty cool. I'm d/l it right now to check it out.
Otherwise, another one I haven't seen mentioned is phpCollab.
http://phpcollab.sourceforge.net/ or http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpcollab/
The demo on their site doesn't seem to be working for me. However, I have d/l and installed this before. One cool feature which could be useful in your case is that you can create "homepages" for each of your projects/clients and they would only see the information that you allow them to see while you have access to everything. |

I had forgotten about them, so I went out to check if they've improved it any. Their demo is down right now, but they've got a wicked support forum product |

There is a substantial rewrite underway at Liberum right now. I don't know when the release may be, the originator moved & changed jobs and hasn't had much time to spend with the project lately.

Yes. I d/l Liberum a while ago and that wicked support forum was one reason why I liked it - it shows he knows what he's doing. |

Anther update: The goal posts have moved!!!!!!!!!!
I sent Convea the follow email:
Donhost who we use for hosting will not allow a exe application like Convea on their server!
Convea response was: To run Convea you will need to have dedicated hosting. My best recommendation would be to find one abroad on continental Europe or North America. Not only is hosting cheaper but the speed and performance seems to be better too.
This has threw a spanner in the works because the "plus" of being able to use Convea free (charity) is offset by what I presume would be heavy hosting charges. Since my last email and after futher poking around I was almost sure Convea was the one.............but......Any advice?

Well...you could always host it yourself.
Get a cable/DSL account that provides a dedicated IP (although there are ways around that too) and allows you to serve pages from it. Split the cost 12 ways and it wouldn't be much cost to the clients.
Or talk to some of the people here on the boards who provide hosting. I'm sure someone wouldn't mind hosting this for you once they take a look at what it entails. Whatever they would charge -- split the cost among your clients.
Did you take a look at phpCollab? That just requires PHP and MySQL. |
