Apparently the parents have filed a lawsuit.
I wonder who seeked whom out. Did the parents seek out the attorney or did the attorney seek out the parents. It's probably likely the parents went looking.
I'll be honest and say I don't know what it's like. I'm sure it was humiliating. But to claim he's marked for life? Short term psychiatric care, sure -- consultations, sessions and medication. I don't know the 'for life' aspect. Some of that seems a bit extreme.
"Now his parents are claiming damages of $160,000 from the families of the four classmates who digitized and published the video. Ghyslain's parents claim their son was so humiliated, he is undergoing psychiatric care and may be marked for life by the experience."

You know, not many people can say they became famous at the age of 15. How much you wanna bet he'll use it to pick up chicks later in life? |

It's crap like this that pushes these kids to go on shooting sprees in their own high schools. Something extreme needs to be done. How would any of you like it if someone stole a video tape with you on it, upload it to the Internet, and make fun of you? |

Hmm...if I received $4,000 plus an iPod...
The video tape wasn't exactly stolen. The kid had borrowed the video camera and forgot to remove the tape before he gave the camera back to his friend. |

I guess it really depends on the individual. There are some people who this type of thing wouldn't have been a problem. They would have taken advantage of it and had fun with it. He could have probably made an appearance on Leno, Letterman and so on.
I know some people are probably thinking people are making fun of him because of his weight and stuff. Okay, maybe so but there are people who have used it to their advantage. Think of Chris Farley. |

HAHA! I thought it was cute and now he's under psychiactric care and his parents are seeking damages of $160,000 from the families of the four classmates who digitized and published the video? As if! He didn't do anything different any other kid hasn't done before.
In fact, I bet if I had that plastic double light saber setting on a conference table at the law firm where I work someone will pick it up and give it a whirl and put on a serious "Darth Maul" face. |

I REALLY enjoyed this video...he could use it to its full advantage, maybe even get an endorsement type thing after he appeared on Leno or Letterman. |

That was way too funny, I can't beieve the parents are claiming damages tho. I think we all do things in our youth that we often wish we never had done and had the pissed taken out of us something rotten, I know I did. You just gotta laugh it off and take it on the chin. |

Do you really believ you'd laugh it off if all you heard was "hey, there's that fat kid with the light saber...hahaha"? I don't think it was funny at all and feel bad for the kid. Parents have to teach their kids the impact something like this can have on a kid. It's hard enough being a kid. |

Agreed, god, if that was me, I'd want to kill myself. And that's exactly the type of comments that will be made to this kid too "Hey, look its that fatass kid that thinks he's in Star Wars!".

Agreed, the anger will build and build until you do something extreme, weather that be kicking someone's ass, or getting a gun.
In CT they have some new bullying law, and they 'think' it will cut down on bullying. HA! That law is the biggest load of crap - it depends on students reporting the bullying, 99% of the time - they don't. Adults / teachers really need to open their eyes and realize what goes on in the Public school Systems. |

Hi there, Actually things like this did happen to me when I was in school and I was the but of jokes becuase I was 20 pounds overweight. Actually had a smaller expereince in regards to video taping. My friends zoomed in on my croch and butt areas when we were video taping an event then proceeded to laugh and make comments when we watched it back. I am sure other kids i don't know about saw it. But I was constantly having people make comments about me. They always say but you take the teasing and jokes so well. I started my own female cycle in the 3rd grade and also wore a bra by then. You know how much teasing I received from boys and girls. Snapping my bra. Going around in a circle constantly singing I had my period. I had a boy stalker calling me when I was in junior high. Telling me he is watching me undress and watching everything I do. Same guy use to take his car over our lawn one winter. We had a peeping tom in our neighbor hood also. I was the first girl on an all boy all star team in the 5th and 6th grade. Know how much districmination I received from referees and the assistant coaches as well as parents? In one game they managed to foul me out in the first quarter with time to spare. There was a lot more stuff I went through when I was young. And my parents didn't claim damages nor was I in a psych ward.
While it would be a good idea if parents teach their kids the impact. It would also be a good idea for parents to teach children that they are responsible for their own emotional and mental well being. That they do not have to hand over their power to someone else and yank their emotional and mental states. I realized that no one can hurt me unless I let them. It is up to me if I decide to take someone comments as hurtful. I found that the only time I ever took someones comment as hurtful is if their was some doubt in me in that area of my life.
But in todays society I notice we want everyone else to take responsiblity for our own well being. And for me that just is not the case. Everyday I make a conscious effort to take care of myself.
Many blessings,
Sacred

I agree, this is what I meant about taking it on the chin. I am a 35 year father of 4 children and I teach my kids to take no notice of what others say about them or when they are called names. I was bullied when I was a teenager because I wore glasses and my father told me to do exactly as I now tell my kids, laugh with them about it and don't let it show if it may hurt you, even a little. It don't take long for people to get bored of the perverse pleasure they got from it. So thas what I did and soon no one said a word, all except one kid who kept on and on so i just battered him one day which had the desire effect also.
But my point is this, if he was silly enough to leave something like that tape lying around for others to find, he has no one to blame but himself. I am not saying that the guys who uploaded it to the net were not in the wrong, but hey they were kids and unfortunately kids always engage mouth before brain, or act before they think and don't worry about the consequences, I was the same as I am sure is the case for most other people reading this. Sure i feel a little sorry for the kid but for his parents to take out a law suit is ridiculus, but they are the times we live in I am afraid. |
