I have been able to try some of your suggestions now.
As you can see, border on footer is now gone. I just removed all 4 bgcolor references and it did the trick.
Copywrite is amended, that was slack of me not to have done that already!
I am relatively happy with the 95% width so I am going to leave that for now, but I will work on the colours as I think you are right, black and dark greens would be better than blues for my site.
