I was just curious if anyone here has a "rule of thumb" that they follow for archiving old topics.
On my boards (link below) I have a few member forums that have the majority of the posts and archive the older stuff regularily, however I have a few forums that rarely get any posts and generally dont archive them at all. Since the biggest reason for archiving is to keep the number of records in forum_topics and forum_replies down I dont see a problem with this.
What do you guys (and girls) think?

If it works for ya, it must be ok. With high traffic forums, you probably want to archive in a more periodic manner so that you don't get too many posts in the live forums, that make searching more tedious, for example. |

Depends entirely on your hardware and traffic, if it's going too slow because it has to sort through too many posts to do a simple search it sounds like it's time to archive.
Thanks for the posts guys, like I said I was just curious if any of you have a "rule of thumb" that you personally follow.
