Hi!
Just wondered if these MODs exist, or if anyone has any code which would let me achieve these...
Ignore PM
A couple of people on my forum get annoying PMs from other members, and they wanted to know if there is a MOD to allow them to block PMs from certain members!? If this is available, would it be possible, for instance, when A sends B a PM, an auto response from B is sent to A saying the PM is blocked, and redirected to the admin...the PM that A sent to B is then sent to the admin to look into the nuisance PMs etc?
Referer
What I'd like to do is to give members their on link to my forum, eg. www.ckyalliance.co.uk/forum/referer.asp?id=1 which would count the number of people who go through that members link, and register. That way, I can see who brings in the most members, and maybe use it to congratulate them etc in the future
and last but not least...
Moderator limits
Would it be possible to stop (or make a new type of moderator) moderators from deleting topics!? I don't like to delete topics etc from my forum because everyone should have a right to what they say, so I prefer my moderators to lock topics, tell me, and then I can decide if it needs deleting or not.
Sorry if that seems a lot, but any help would be great
Thanks a lot!

If I remember correctly, there was a version of the PM Ignore Mod for version 3.3.x, might have a copy on my other machine. If not, ServerHacker has incorporated it into his portal, he might be willing to share.
I am working on something similar to what the "referer" mod you're looking for, should have an alpha version by Monday, if nobody offers anything else in the meantime.
Have you given any though to writing some guidelines up for your moderators detailing what they can and cannot do and how they should go about doing it, it would save you a bit of code work. I am of the same ilk as your self; perferring to lock topics than delete them (unles they're extremely offensive); I could give you a gander at the guidelines I'm working on , if that'd be any use.

I've asked the Moderators to stick to certain rules, but one of them took it upon himself to delete a 100 page topic, so I wasn't best pleased. I was just thinking, if I could choose what authority Moderators have, then it would ensure people wouldn't be able to do things like that again. Although those guidelines would be cool
I'll have a look for the PM Ignore MOD then.
I'd be interested to take a look at the MOD you've got in the making
Thanks again! |

You can find the PM Ignore particulars in Image's forums. He uses a separate table in the database. Download his code and see what he did.

Sorry for the late reply, Oli, been a bit busy at work. Unfortunately that mod is on hold until I can free up some time to work on it. But, if they're any use to you, here are the guidelines I wrote up for the moderators on my forums. Moving topics If a topic is started in one of the forums you moderate that you feel is out of place, you can move it to another forum to which it would be better suited. Click the pencil icon on forum.asp or the edit topic icon on topic.asp to edit the topic in question and then select the new forum from the "Forum" dropdown list located beneath the formatting options. Note that if you move a topic to another forum that you are not a moderator of you will no longer be able to edit or delete that particular topic.
Editing posts There are many other reasons why you may need to edit a post besides moving it; fixing broken links, removing offensive comments, correcting typos etc.. You should already be familiar on how to go about doing so as you were able to edit your own posts before becoming a moderator. While I am strictly opposed to censorship, there are some things that are not acceptable on MeTV: posts of an overly sexual or pornographic nature; personal attacks on individual members or groups of members; racist, sexist or otherwise anti-social behaviour and direct linking ("hotlinking") to media on other servers being the major ones. If you do edit a post, please leave a note in the post stating your reasons for doing so by using the following: <edited by MeTV to (reason) />.
Locking topics If you feel a topic is irrelevant or unsuitable for MeTV's forums, you can lock it by clicking the lock icon on forum.asp or the lock topic icon on topic.asp. Reasons for locking topics may include: irrelavant posting, expiration of topic content or a topic straying too far from its original subject. As with editing posts, if you do lock a topic, please leave a note in the original post stating your reasons for doing so: <locked by MeTV because (reason) />. You may also unlock a locked topic at any time by clicking the unlock icon on forum.asp or the unlock topic icon on topic.asp.
Deleting posts Posts should only be deleted as a last resort or if they contain spam. Please only delete individual posts; i.e., only delete a topic if nobody has replied to it, otherwise just remove the content of the original post anfd lock the topic. If for whatever reason you feel you must delete a post, you can do so by clicking the delete icon on forum.asp or the delete post icon on topic.asp. After deleting a post please send me a private message with the author's name so I can update their post count and a recommendation that their account be locked if necessary. Note that deleting a post permanently removes it from the database and, as such, is irreversible.
If you are ever in doubt about what action to take, if any, please send me a private message asking for clarification before proceeding; i.e. please try not to be "trigger happy" in an attempt to play it safe.
