i wonder if someone can shed some light on something i've done (probably) ?
After applying an avatar mod, a PM and PM sounds mod only the very first message in each thread shows, every post below has errors, the body of text is replaced with '941' the username is displayed in the left , the avatar doesn't show, the post count seems really low and is followed by the no.1 on its own
any guidance would be very much appreciated, i applied the mods, one after the other so i cant really pin point one of them, hence posting here in 'general' i also searched for 941 with no luck.
thanks. |

Best suggestion I can offer is double check each mod, if neccessary for now to keep your users happy reupload your original backup files until you can isolate the problem. |

i guess.....
I've been thinking back to last night when i applied the mods and the PM sound mod i thought was a little odd, in the very last amendment it left the " & _ " code off the line ? i thought this was wrong as every line had it (can't remember the .asp file name just now) so i added it LOL.....perhaps this is why ?? |

If you had an extra "&_" in the wrong place generally the page would not work at all, its used basically as a continuation when ASP code/strings are wrapped over multiple lines |

In topic.asp there is a block of code, assigning numbers to variables, this code is very easy to mess up when installing both the avatar and PM mods, there are many posts about this sort of error in the Help Mod Implementation forums.
I would post the example code but I don't have it to hand sorry |

ok thanks for this, we took a step outside of the box and decided to download and install serverhackers forum over our own as it seems to have all the mods ready installed. Yeah i know lazy ! the only prob we have now is that the guy who uploaded the new folders forgot to set their read/write attributes so its unusable at present, he's no decided to go off and play golf for a few hours leaving http://www.unitylowrider.co.uk forum less!!! LOL....
They're not on a unix server and we don't own the server they're on so correcting the attributes means doing it first locally and then uploading it all again....bogus.
once again, many thanks and we're always grateful for the advice. |

Thats unlikely to fix it actually, the permissions need to be set on the server, when you upload the files they will inherit the permissions already set on the server, they don't take their local permissions with them I'm afraid. |

I've just taken a quick look at your forum as well, I dont see any obvious permissions errors (I could be wrong though), have your followed the serverhackers install fully ? you don't seem to have run the DBS files to create the new tables in the database yet. |

i think the guy that uploaded it got his knickers in a twist and there were all sorts of probs (it was his first time, i think he should stick to mass data storage LOL..) anyway i'm currently re-doing the whole set up thing

Server Hacker has a file called DBS Files for upgrading. I know I ran into problems when I upgraded and had to run the dbs files in this download. You may have got your old database working if you ran the set up up for each of the mods.
