It took 2.39 seconds to load the forum home page and I am on a T3, here is my connection speed. I also have a 1.34 ghz computer with 512 mb RAM

It's not what kind of comp you have ,it's the connection you have...I know a guy (dexter) who has a brand new Dell..but he has dial up so it doesnt do him much good...

When I go to the portal page it's 0.88 sec...
now if you are going to complain about 2 sec.....I really don't know what to tell ya...2 secs? i could see 2 mins..or 2 hrs...but 2 secs hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |

Sorry I should have clarified, not saying that it was slow for me, it actually didn't take too long, but scrolling was a little iffy (btw T3 is just a touch faster than dial up  )
I'll reiterage, Don't like gold on grey, header takes up half the page. Perhaps for the images they could be downsized slightly and for the header images, you could make the gifs and have just the center part, take out the background color on them altogether. I've never been a fan of scrollers, they annoy me but that might be more of a personal preference. The poll also takes a pretty large amount of the frong page |

As for the poll part I could have a poll question does the sun shine? yes and no and ity would still be the same size...you have to talk to whomever wrote that part.....

Hi receecup,
I will jump in here about time it takes. I am on a dsl line myself so I hav eno issue with your site. But this is what i will say.
When designing my own websites I take into account how much download KB or MB the user will be required to download (as in graphics, text, html code) whenver I design my site.
I try and limit it to 40 secs for 28.8 and 20 seconds for a 56 kps modems.
For your site alone on the home page is 240K which roughly translates to for a user to download your site on a 28.8 modem it will take roughly 82.81 seconds (1 minute and 23 seconds) and for a 56 modem it will take 42.16 seconds. If all is right with the server you are hosting it on.
Now I did research on the percentages of the people using 28.8, 56, DSL, cable modem, as well as the average connection speed. And I found that alot of people (I think it was over 25%) were still connecting at 28.8 or less (yes you cna connect at less, I have even done it on my laptop with an aol account when I was away 14.4 is what I connected at).
So if you are thinking about it this way 240K is alot. My home page is 135K and my forum page is even less becuase it can have more information on it (dues to changing forum, topic lists,ect) was designed with less graphics and the first page is 70K.
The choice is upto you but if you are wanting people to participate you might take into consideration the size. I know when sites take to long for me to load I down it and that is it.
The guy with the dell may not have a choice but to have a slow dial up connection. So to me as web programmer/designer I have a choice about how much bandwith I am going to require of people.
