Try overring automatic cookie handling in IE for your site. You can do that in the Tools->Internet Options menu, Privacy tab.

in IE 6? i run 5.5 and don't want to upgrade because IE6 runs badly in Windows ME
if this is a cookie issue would it help to change the data in config.asp?

Doesn't IE 5.5 support that feature as well? I can no longer remember...
