Our forum is a pretty vanilla Snitz Forum, but there are a couple of features we added you may be interested in.

We have a chat room (we bought ParaChat server so we have our own chat server), and we've included a banner in the menu header that shows current (updated every 15 seconds by an external monitoring daemon) chat room activity. A click on the Chat menu item logs you into chat.

We added a little mod that tells when each topic was begun, as well as the date/time of the last post. As admin, this tiny change has been very useful.

We've begun having monthly awards, and include the most recent award recognition in the user posting area. Along with the personal photos (submitted to us and hosted by us), our members really like this feature.

Post made to the Test forum don't count toward activity stars, nor do they show up in Active Topics.

I'll leave the following logon active in the event you're interested in visiting and providing a bit of feedback.

Looks nice! A bit too much pink for me though...

I tried to use the chat room, but it said I was doing something illegal, or something like that.

I just tried the chat room from the Test User account and it worked for me. Chat does require Java. We were having some internal network problems earlier this morning and the chat room might have been disconnected for a while (the forums, the data base, and the chat room are all hosted on independent servers).

It's more pink than I personally prefer, but our membership is 99.3% women, and those are Denise Austin's official colors, so, that part probably won't change.

Thanks to those who dropped by and checked it out. I know it's not as fancy as a lot of the others I've seen, but most importantly, our users like it. We've been averaging about 12 new members a day for the six months the forum has been active.

Okay, just tried it again, and here's the message I get:

beep on part plays: part.au
A 5-minute client pulse has been started, your connection will be kept alive

(c)1996-2002 M Square Inc. [ http://www.ParaChat.com ] v4.01

You have attempted to access an imposter chat room. Connection denied. ( )

TestMagic, I recognize that message - it's part of the ParaChat check to make sure that you are entering the chat room only from an authorized web site.

I think you may have found a problem with my site, and I also think I've corrected it, thanks to you.

Were you perhaps entering the chat room from a page other than the default page? I always tested from default.asp, and I believe that I inadvertantly set up the "imposter room" check to assume entry from default.asp. I've fixed that now, and the chat room should work from any forum page.

Thanks again for taking the time to check it out. You've helped me improve something already!

Yes, I assumed that that was the reason the connection was being denied.

I just tried it again, same result. And yes, I'm clicking from /default.asp; that's the only place I saw the link, anyway.

Could it be a firewall issue? I.e., similar to the policy.asp issue we are all so familiar with?

I got the same error message and it shouldn't be a firewall issue on my end.

It should not be a firewall issue. I tried it several times from home last night with no problem. I will try from several machines at work today, and then contact ParaChat and ask them to try it as well.

The chat room link is a permanent part of the main menu, so it should be on every page.

Thanks for your continued help.

I checked with forum members, and no one there has reported having any problems with Chat unless their browser isn't Java-enabled.
