Everyone vote in the poll to give your feedback on weather or not we should change the numbers tied to stars and ranks here in the forums!!!
Proposal: 1st = 100 2nd = 500 3rd = 1,000 4th = 5,000 5th = 10,000

Is is because too many members are getting 4/5 stars or some other reason?

As Snitz matures, there are naturally going to be many more people who pass the 1,000-, 2,000-, 5,000-, and 10,000-post mark. I assume, Mike, that you had this idea because of the number of people who are now venturing into this territory that was once reserved for the Admins and founders. Of course, it's a great thing that more people are "joining the ranks," but I assume you're looking for a way to differentiate the really high posters (you know who you are) from the others. It all makes sense.
That said, I also think that the current Snitz Star Levels are actually pretty demanding. How many members does Snitz have? Should be 20,000 or more (I believe Richard deleted some inactive users some time back), and how many of those have even made it past 100? I just checked the members.asp page, and there were 717 pages of members. I went to the 7th page, just to get a rough approximation of the top 1% of posters and see at the end of that page is a member with 147 posts. So, from this admittedly hasty assessment, we could say that only 1% of all Snitzers make more than approximately 150 posts. In other words, the range in the top 1% is enormous--from 150 to 15,000.
Okay, I'm realizing that I'm spending more time on this than I should, so what I want to say is this--it's good to have a system that would encourage new posters to participate, but a system that could show some recognition for the high posters--the best of both worlds. Not sure if there's an easy solution to this, though! |

ah test :) but that is why the first two stars are very atainable... at 100... most people can get there with ANY amount of partisipation... 500 if you stick arround a little while... and 1000 is actualy not that hard if your helping out regularly... now the rest is for the finatics :) |

I would agree with TestMagic, considering that 99% (based upon his observations) of the forums' members dont have their second star it is quite safe where it is. Besides I dont have any |

Under the proposed plan then, there'd be about 3 5 star member and 4 4 star members with everyone else being 3 or less. That's a pretty small fraction of the community.
Look at the top ten posters: Richard, Ruirib, HuwR, Davio, Frutzle, Nathan, Gor, Doug G, Gremlin, GauravBhabu. Anyone who visits Snitz regularly will know who these people are because of their contributions to the forum. They're all over the place.
Changing the star allocation is not going to make them any more appreciated than they already are, but it might make someone starting out feel unappreciated.

Personally I think that Custom Titles encourage more participation. Once someone reaches 5 stars or beyond that entitles them to some distinction and that could be a custom title. |

this is just something I put together, originally for a "Forum of the Year" award, but modified it to work with this. It's not very configurable, but serves the purpose for which it was designed. |
