How difficult would it be to create a MOD that would output reports (i.e., tables and charts) on the number of posts done in particular forums/categories? It would be time-based, so you could select the last month or six months or whatever.
This would be a great service for a large client to show them quickly any trends in particular forums/categories/topics that had the largest or the least posts. |

You wouldn't happen to have access to Crystal Reports or even better Crystal Enterprise would you? That's how I deploy and deliver top notch reporting at the place I work. |

Thanks Dayve. We have CR 8.5. Are you using Access or SQL for your forum DB? Is CR working directly from your forum DB? |

I am using MS SQL and Crystal Reports connects nicely to a many types of databases, especially MS SQL. You could really whip up some nice reports.
Crystal Reports does not produce web reports, unless you have the Developer Edition in which then it comes with the web components. However I am also using a product called Crystal Enterprise which seamlessly takes your designed reports and spits them out as very nice web reports within a browser. In the past I have done this for my forum at year end so people can look at some stats and graphs, but I have discarded those reports after my last server rebuild. I use Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise probably every day at work, so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I kind of consider myself a Crystal Guru *tooot tooot* |

Is it possible to simply take your reports and apply them to our forum DB? (well, not 'take' but pay for if you like) Do the web reports need a runtime version of CR, or are they stand-alone? |

like I said, I don't have my reports anymore because it was for year end and I've rebuilt my server since then. The reports can be distributed in a compiled form or web interface but you would need either Developer or Crystal Enterprise to do that with.
What is it you want to report on? |

If I have forums 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 inside a category, I'd like:
1. a column chart (and table of data) to show the number of posts in any one forum over a selected period of time, and
2. a pie chart (and table of data) to show the total number of posts for each forum to obtain a comparison. |
