I've spent the last couple of months redesigning my entire site and the forums. My goal being to integrate the forums better into the site rather than have them feel like a 'bolt-on'.
Anyway, it's finished. Hoorah!
A couple of things to show. Firstly, the main index page at www.bandlink.net/index.asp which incorporates @tomic's Content Display MOD as well as Davio's Site Poll MOD. I think i'm one of the first people to actually use this MOD on their site and hopefully, i've incorporated it quite well - I know Davio liked it.
Secondly, the forums themselves at www.bandlink.net/forum/ . It was a tricky decision to go for a fixed-width forum but I think i've done a decent job. Have to thank D3mon big time for his Site Integration MOD. Made my life a lot easier!
Anyway, if you'd like to check it out, you can use
username: test password: test
and i'd love to hear some feedback! |

Very nice, I quite liked you old site by I think this is ten times nicer (not to say you old site was not nice ). Very colourful, with out being garish etc.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the size of the icons, they seem a bit chunky to me.
Apart from the icons though its one of the nicest I have seen in a while |

Why is it specific to 800x600 resolution? can't you use percentages instead and then the forum would fill all of my screen at 1024x768. |

I've got the entire site specific to 800*600. I found it hard to find a 'look' that would fit well in 800*600 that would look good in something like 1600*1200. At least with fixed-width, everybody gets the same display. I think it looks better too to have the forums and the main site the same size and shape.
I'll probably up it 1024*768 in the future. As it is, there's still enough people using 800*600 to justify using it. Anyway, you don't get that much blank screen in 1024*768! |

for some reason the banner at the top wasn't blocked on the homepage, and I noticed how dang-diddly-hard it was to see what site I was on. Your logo was almost gone thanks to the banner taking up all the space. The part below the navigation looks kind of white on the homepage. I guess I expected something else.
The forums look nice with slick glass-like buttons and non-obtrusive gradients. However, because of the limited space you've allowed the forums to use, you might want to consider hiding the moderator's column. Also, having the "Moderator Lounge" forum shown isn't such a great idea IMO. Some members might get aggitated thinking the moderators are gossipping or plotting top secret conspiracies in that forum |

Really? Nobody's ever mentioned that before. Have to say that I thought it was rather clear.

I did consider that. That's why in the end I decided to 'stack' the moderator names rather than have them in a "mod1, mod2, mod3" format. I like my members to be able to see who is modding where so I prefer to keep it.

Who say's we're not? Hiding it might be a good option though. |

MarkJH, your site and forum looks good to me. I especially like the colors and layout to your forum. I only have one suggestion (and I'm being picky with this one): try putting your login/logout and navigation links at the top of the forum in a nice table like the rest of your stuff. I have done it on my horrible looking forum, The Drive House Forum (click house forum link at top), but I think if you did something like it on yours it would turn out really nice. I just hate to see when people haven't modified that section of the snitz code. Anyway, again nice site and forum! |

Mark, your forum looks great! Very professional!
Here's the stuff I like and don't like. First, I'm not keen on Arial for some reason. But I guess that's a judgment call. Second, I also don't like fixed-width forums; they make me feel limited. And for fixed-width forums, I prefer the forum to be centered, not left-aligned. On topic.asp, there's a big white block in the upper right, to the right of your site info and above the forum table. Oh, just noticed it on the bottom, too. Your main site links ("Main," "Forums," "Radio," etc.) look flat compared with the rest of your forum.
Okay, what I like--your header cell gradient is very nicely done! I know it's hard to get natural-looking gradients. Your overall color scheme and layout is very relaxing, easy on the eyes, and professional. Nice work, nice tweaks! Definitely one of the best done forums I've seen in a while. |

That's something i'm thinking about doing. I'm deep in promotion hell right now but I may look into that. Actually, I really like what you've done with your login there, Mykel. May have to 'borrow' the idea.

I thankyou, Erin!

I'm considering Verdana, since the rest of the site is done this way.

Also considering making it 1024*768 but not for some while yet.

Sounds like that's where I have a 468*60 ad. Do you have an ad blocker installed?

I think so too. I've got a lot better with Photoshop 7 since I started the design of the site. Might look at jazzing that bit up a little... and the A-Z graphics too. |

Don't worry about borrowing the idea, you can go ahead and steal the **** thing! I'm finally honored someone wants my code. |
