I have not finished it yet. The only page I have dealt with is default.asp and the inc_header.asp which took along time to go through and figure out the code to make the changes that I did.
http://www.innerhaven.com/spiritual/forum/default.asp
username: test Password: test
the biggest two things I am changed is the inc_header.asp with the menu at the top. The menu is dynamic and will only display features the person viewing is allowed to see. Such as a guest would not see the members list link and a member would not see register. I also changed the default.asp and how it works in displaying the forums. I wanted people to be able to request permission to gain access to a particular forum and for me to be able to approve them for a particular forum and sending them an email notification. So far I have not done the administrator part. But the user can request the approval or password and it will store it in the database. That much of the code I have written.
I just made many small adjustments to security things on this page. Such as if they don't have rights to the forum the post folder is not there. If they are not logged in they can't click to view member profile.
Changed the colors. Still have a lot of work to do. I changed one thing in the forum.asp page and took away a guest right to click on creating a new topic.
Haven't completely tested all the changes in the different browsers. But all forums right now are test forums.
Anyway, have a look..let me know if you have any suggestions.
Yours in deepest gratitude,

I like the idea of the "access rights" column, but somehow it gives me the feeling that everything you do on those forums gets monitored. Maybe it's the wording "you must ... then you must...", maybe I'm just plain old weird.
One thing though: change the copyright line. The forums automatically add the copyright sign, so now yours look like this © All rights reserved @ Inner Haven 2002-2003 |

I also like the access rights idea. I would change the wording though. Every forum says, Register First... Perhaps, when they request the password they can register at the same time? Or something along those lines. |

Thanks guys for the opinions.
Yeah, I think you are right about the wording and how it works. I have to think about it some more. May require more coding then simple text changes to make the access rights work differently. Maybe I should be more proactive and in that colum make a couple of graphics one saying something like review topics and the other saying Participate, then firing them off to register. Hmm have to think about that...
Thanks for catching the copyright I didn't even notice.
