I hit the following site while surfing:
http://www.securityspace.com/s_survey/data/200301/servers.html

It includes very detailed reports they gathered through their spiders as of Feb 2003... They also interactively provide historical/comparative graphs:

web srvrs by domain
	market share
	server details
ssl srvrs by domain
	market share
	server details
	certs & CAs
	protocols & ciphers
apache modules
tech penetration
web authoring tools
theft & upgrades
cookie usage
isp market share
dns load balancing
web bugs
firewalled IIS
web failure/growth
p3p compact policy
telephone area code

Although I know it does not include most of the Intranet sites, the IIS 5 market share is terrible. NT4/IIS4 dropped from %25 (mid 2000) to %6, IIS 5.0 increased to %18.14... IIS 5.1 & IIS 6.0 are negligable. Various versions of Apache govern as expected...

I didn't know that there are so many different web server brands either.

IIS 5.1 comes with XP (I think), so it's not really a server OS, the low numbers should not be surprising. IIS 6.0 is not a final product, is it, so the numbers cannot be that surprising either, I guess.

Well sure. All I wanted to emphasize was that the total market share of M$ stayed as it is despite the advances they made. It seems that IIS 4 (NT/4) users got upgraded to IIS 5 (w2k), very few new customers (relatively of course)...

And this shows that total number of "active" websites got stationery in the second half of 2002, somehow:

This is interesting, it was doubling every year.

I guess their security reputation doesn't allow them to progress much further...which may be a bit unfair... Here is an interesting article on Linux security and patches:

Bozden, I apologize if this falls out of this topic. I can start another if you feel I should. Just say so, and I'll do it.
