Watching my internet traffic on my network I see this url processed with EVERY page request:
toolbarqueries.google.com
Anyone have an idea why this is happening? I am not searching for anything, it happens on every request I make to the internet. |

I believe the Google toolbar sends information back to Google about which pages you are visiting, much like the Alexa toolbard does (alexa.com). The disclaimer (the second one, the one that pops up and won't let me copy any text right now to show you) says something about this. |

It has to get the "page rank" information somewhere
It wont do that if you disable the "advanced features" |

Never paid any attention to the page rank feature, but that makes perfect sense. |

I'd like to believe it was as innocent as that, but I would also assume they use it for targeted advertising.

Arron, what kind of advertising have you seen Google displaying?
I would think that the search information you submitt to google would be more than enough to target you for advertising. |

Google states they will not use the automatic feedback for any advertising in the disclaimer about this feature, plus you certainly don't have to participate. So far Google appears to be one of the truly honorable companies on the Internet, and I believe them.

I saw a discussion funnily enough today about that site, there seems to be a lot of bad feeling between the site owner and google, revolving around googles rankings for his own website.
I don't really agree with what he says google is doing is wrong IMHO.

F6 still goes to the address bar for me. . . .
But then I'm using the google bar in Mozilla, not IE. |

Never knew about the F6 thing. I'm glad you brought that up! |
